17. Please Tell Me Nothing but the Truth (pt 2)

He waited until I climbed back onto the bed, then placed the tray of food on my lap. The minute I tasted the soup, I gobbled everything down. As I ate the food, Christian stood in front of me watching me, it made me a tad uncomfortable but I couldn’t stop eating. Finally I finished with the food, I sat on the bed, drinking my iced tea. We both sat in silence, each waiting for the inevitable discussion to begin. I broke the silence first.

"I need to call my mother right now.”

The words were barely finished coming out of mouth when my cell phone appeared out of thin air and into Christian’s outstretched hand. I gently smiled, put my tea down, then punched in my mother‘s cell phone number.

“Oh my Goodness Madison! Are you okay? I was so worried about you. Are you okay?” She asked me hysterically.

“Yes mom.”

“Thank the Lord. I already talked to Christian’s mother, such a kind woman. You say thank you to the Watson’s for taking care of you. If Christian hadn’t been there to scare off that animal, you’ve could’ve been killed. The sheriff is searching for the animal based on Christian’s description, let’s hope they find it soon. Christian has assured me he will bring you back tomorrow morning first thing.”

“Tomorrow morning? What about school on Monday” I asked, confused.

“I’m not back yet and I don’t want you home by yourself. Don’t worry about school, I think you’ve been through enough. I will call the principal and you will make up any work you need to. Christian’s parents are allowing him to miss school in order to bring you over, he insisted on driving you home. When your friends called me earlier this morning saying you weren’t there I told them the story about how you went off. They were so worried, not that I blame them. I told them you were in good hands, I didn’t tell them you were at the Watson’s because you need some rest. I would’ve rushed home immediately if Dr. Watson hadn’t called me late last night explaining the situation. At first, I wasn’t convinced so I sent Sheriff Tyler over to the Watson’s last night to check out everything. He came back with a good report of the family. Dr. Watson suggested that I should stay here because there was nothing to be concerned about. Oh honey what would possess you to walk around in the Forbidden Forestby yourself in the dead of night?”

“I’m sorry mom, I wasn’t thinking. It was a stupid decision.”
The events of last night would haunt me the rest of my life, being close to death unfortunately makes you appreciate life more.

"You have to be careful. In fact, do you want me to come home now? It’s only four o clock now, I can make it back by eleven and come pick you up.”

“No, it’s okay, stay where you are. Everything here is fine, I had dinner already and I’m really okay. I love you.” I reassured her.

“Okay sweetheart, I will call you first thing in the morning when I am on my way.Oh, I had the Sheriff bring some change of clothes for you there too. Please do everything Dr. Watson tells you. I love you too.”

“I promise mom. Bye.”

I closed my phone, turning my attention back to Christian. He knew we had to talk about what had happened, he knew I didn't forget his acts of superhuman strength. I wasn't even sure I could even call his strength human, it was a force I'd never seen in my life.

“Well?” I probed.

“What?” Christian asked, confused.

“You know what, what the hell happened last night? How did you manage to simply pick up an animal that had to weight at least two hundred pounds and toss it like a bag of trash? How is possible that you can stand there unnervingly still and how is it even possible that your eyes flash brown to blue?” I rambled on, throwing out dozens of questions, unable to control myself.

Christian was a mystery to me, that I wanted-needed to solve. I half expected him to get defensive like he did last time I asked him a question. Instead he smiled ruefully.

“You are very smart and observant Madison. I can’t read you, can’t figure you out. I have underestimated you.” His observation surprised me. If he was trying to change the subject, it wasn’t working. I continued,

“No more cryptic messages. I need to know what’s going on. I promise everything we talk about will never leave this room. You told me Friday night you would be the person I could rely on, I need you to be honest with me. I don’t care how bad it is but I know there is something not right and I need to know. Please tell me.”

“Where do you wish me to begin?” He inquired, sitting on the bed in front of me.

“Tell me what you are.” I demanded.

“Don’t you mean who?”

“I know who you are, but I’m not sure what you are. After what I‘ve seen since the day I met you and the sound I heard from you last night, I know you’re not human.” I said, cautious.

I treaded over this subject carefully, because this was my number one suspicion all along. Christian wasn’t a normal boy, I‘d try to ignore it but I could no longer, the evidence was too overwhelming.

“Do you have any guesses?” He probed.

“I’ve considered…that you could be an alien…but a good alien.” I said thoughtfully though feeling a bit foolish.

His brow furrowed, my breathing stopped. I waited, waited for him to confess and confirm it.
“You mean like E.T.?” He scoffed.

“ Well…Yes.”

“I’m sorry to disappoint you because what I am is nothing like that. I am not a alien, I am a nightmare but like E.T. I don't belong here, I belong in Hell.” He said bitterly.

“Why?" I whispered, frightened.

“Because my kind harbors inner demons inside of us, we're not of God's creation. We weren't meant to exist, we're tainted with so much darkness we can't even stand sunlight.. Madison-I'm a vampire.” He put his head down shameful, then raised his eyes to mine, his expression tortured.
