9. Claire's Misfortune

Meanwhile in Claire's tent, Claire was looking at a flower that she got before leaving Arcadia. She was watching it and thought of giving it to Katherine. Then she heard a noise.

“Kathy? Matthew? Who's There? Katherine!! Don't play like that with me you know that I can't handle it well…Matthew? Are you there with her? Come on…DON’T BE SO MEAN!!” Claire yelled.

She carefully sheathed her weapon, for she was sensing someone near her tent. Suddenly an attacker came out of nowhere aiming to her heart...but she dodged it. Claire was fighting with a “stranger” and blood was being shed until he hit her and left her unconscious, he tried to fix some things to hide what happened and left without a trace…she only caught a glimpse of the person who attacked her and fainted. Katherine was running toward Claire's tent and called her name

“Claire? Are you in there?” Katherine asked, but to no avail.

When she got inside she yelled her name and everyone heard it. Everyone went where the screaming originated. Everyone gasped seeing Katherine on a small pile of blood and Claire thrown on the floor, covered with blood. Matthew was shaken to see her like that. Katherine felt guilty for not being there to help her or even protecting her. Adam seeing that both commanders weren't giving orders, he gave them himself.

"Isabella, take Claire to my tent and tell Anna to heal her. Hadrian, Genevieve, Dante, Matthew go check the weapons of every soldier in here probably we have someone infiltrated. Dante, Weiss and Ky, go check for clues outside maybe the attacker or attackers have left some evidence, if you find anything let me know. Katherine, follow me” Adam commanded.

Everyone obeyed Adam, but it was in vain. Nobody found anything from the attacker. Hadrian, Genevieve, Dante and Matthew didn't find blood on weapons; Dante and Weiss did not find any evidence or footprints to track the enemy. Katherine checked with Matthew the weapons again but no blood or the smell that it leaves was on it. Everyone hardly slept, especially Matthew. Katherine was walking by and saw him sitting on the floor waiting for Anna's response

“Hey…” Katherine replied.
“Hey…” Matthew answered.
“Matthew, don’t worry, remember that Claire never gives up, she'll be fine. Anna said that the blood that was shed was from the attacker, he hit her on her head but she had regained awareness. See? Nothing serious…” Katherine replied, trying to cheer up Matthew.
“But imagine if it wasn’t that. Just to think of it makes me feel guilty.” Matthew said, rather gloomy.
“But what you imagined didn’t happen. That's a good sign.” Katherine replied.
“NO IT'S NOT!!!” Matthew yelled.
“Matthew...” Katherine whispered
“I’m sorry…its just that the same thing that happened back there in Arcadia. I didn't do something about it and I left, leaving Gabrielle behind. I am afraid that I might not be able to see her again.” Matthew admitted.
“Matthew, I wanted to tell you this, but I am not sure how you might take it.” Katherine replied.
“Tell me. I am already used to bad news, anyway.” Matthew said with low spirits.
“Matthew, remember your sister, Gabrielle?” Katherine asked.
“Yeah?” Matthew replied.
“Your sister is fine she is held in Raleigh's border specifically in Scarlet Prison.” Katherine replied, with a smile.
“Wait...WHAT?! Really? How do you know?” Matthew replied, ecstatically
“She had recently sent me a letter saying that she is fine and that she is worried about you. But there's a catch.” Katherine replied.
“What is it?” Matthew asked.
“We can’t get there yet because we don't have many soldiers and who knows if they have more reinforcements…we are not going to make it. We have to wait till the time comes.” Katherine assured Matthew.
“Which will be your next target?” Matthew asked.
“We have to go little bit further, like around Ethitram. We can't move to a large distance because we have Jared as our ally. He has to inform us about the enemy's next movement.” Katherine explained.
“But why there?” Matthew asked, intrigued.
“You'll see…” Katherine said.
