6. Chapter 5

LIAMS POV

"Hey, there.” Annabelle said greeting me.

"Hi," I said smiling; I couldn’t stop doing that when I was around her.

"You didn’t forget me, did you?” Jake asked, I couldn’t tell if he was being funny or serious.

"Of course not, hey Jake."

"Yea, mhm." Jake said giving me a look as he slipped into the house. You know that thing, that if you hurt a girl, any males that are close to her will kick your ass? Jake would probably be the one leading the charge.

"Well," I said, "I guess I better let you in." I motioned for her to go inside and led I her into the house.

"Hey," I greeted Niall walking into the kitchen, "What are you guys doing?” I asked. All four of them were huddled in the kitchen in deep conversation.

"Nothing,” they all said unison.

"Yea," I said smiling back "nothing, sure." I looked around the room, everything was so nice and pristine, our place never looked like that, ever.

"You have a very lovely home." Annabelle commented.

"Well thank you," Louis said smiling. "That's very nice of you to say, but please call me Margaret."

“Margaret?” Annabelle asked, “I don’t understand.”

“It’s okay, I don’t think he does either,” Harry said, “he’s just a little out of it at the moment.”

"Okay then."

By that time more people had started to come. "Well, if you'll excuse me, I have to go tend to the other guests." Louis said walking away.

"Why don't we go out to the backyard," I suggested,

"So, Louis." Annabelle said as we made our way outside.

“Yea, he’s a weird one, I don’t really have an explanation for him.”

“That’s fine, he seems really funny. Hey Jake.” she said as we walked past her brother. Just as I was about to pass him he took a step to block my path.

“What are your intentions with my sister?" He asked. I almost choked on my own saliva. "Intentions? What do you mean?"

"Look, I'm not stupid. I have eyes you know, I can see what's going on."

"Hmm," I said chuckling, "and what exactly is going on?" I asked.

"You like her, she likes you. Its kind of obvious," he said, which surprised me.

"Not very discreet, am I?"

"No, no you're not." he said shaking his head.

"Well do you have tips that could help me?" I asked. I know, asking for advice from the little brother, pathetic, but I was getting desperate, I was really starting to fall for this girl.

"Well, I wouldn't normally do this because she's my sister, and even though she's older than me, I still have to protect her. But you seem like a pretty cool guy." he rambled.

"Thanks?" I said uncertain. "So about that advice.."

"Yeah, well with her you just tell her what you’re feeling and ask her out, I guess." He said. "My sister doesn't like playing games, she's very upfront about things."

"Ok, well thanks. I really appreciate it." I said giving him a pat on the back.

"Well, good luck" He said walking away to go meet up with some people who had just arrived. I found Annabelle sitting in a lawn chair by the unlit fire pit.

"Hey," I said sitting down besides her. She had an annoyed look on her face, but even then I found her so cute. "Hey," she said barely acknowledging my presence.

"Is something wrong?" I asked, worrying.

"No, it's nothing." She said finally looking at me.

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah, I'm sure."

"Well, okay, I forgot to ask this earlier but do you want to grab some food?” I asked.

"Sure, lets go."

We got up and went back inside to the kitchen.

"You're putting ketchup on your burger?" Annabelle asked me while we were putting the condiments on our food.

"Yeah, got a problem with it?" I said, she was giving me this weird look like I was crazy or something.

"No, not really. I just don't like it."

"You don't like ketchup? No one doesn't like ketchup." I said looking at her in fake shock.

"Well I don't."

"How come?"

"I don't know, I just don't"

"Have you ever tried it?" I asked holding the bottle to her.

"No, not really, it just looks weird and gross." She said pushing the bottle away.

"Come on try it, you know you want to." I edged on, pushing the bottle towards her again.

"Ok fine." She said giving in. "I'll try just a little." I took the bottle and squeezed it all over her burger.

"That's enough," she said. "Ok enough." she squealed trying to get the bottle away from me. "Ok, ok." I said putting the bottle down. We walked back to the fire pit. I sat down and immediately started eating; I looked over to see Annabelle staring at her food. "Is something wrong?" I asked. She shook her, but didn't start eating. "Are you sure?"

"Yeah."

"Then why aren't you eating?"

"I'm scared," she said sheepishly.

"Come on, it's not so bad." I said giving her a little nudge.

"Okay fine." she said. She picked up the burger, looked at me and took a huge bite. She chewed slowly and looked at me, she had this look on her face that was pure disgust. She swallowed slowly and looked at me.

"That is so gross." she said, "I can't believe you made me eat that." She leaned forward and gave me a little shove.

"What?" I chuckled. "I didn't make you do anything." She just looked at me, trying to glare but she burst out laughing, causing me to laugh too. "What? It's not funny." She whined.

"Yeah it was." Then we were both laughing, so hard my sides hurt. "Oh, shoot." she cried jumping up.

"What's wrong?" I asked looking up at her.

"I got ketchup on my dress, I’ll be back." She said running off. I continued eating my burger, five minutes later Annabelle still hadn't come back. I was already finished with my food and got up to look for her. I walked back into the house and roamed around. I thought I had lost her until I heard her voice coming from the bathroom. “Mom, I’m sorry okay, it was an accident, I didn’t mean to.” Annabelle said in a pleading voice. The other person, her mom I guessed was talking back and I saw Annabelle unfold. She looked so frustrated, so sad. Tears were starting to form in her eyes. “Mom, please no.” She said her voice cracking. I had no idea what was being said, I assumed they were talking about her dress but how could someone get this upset over a little spilt ketchup? There had to be something more to it. I was about to ask if she was okay when she turned her back to me and shut her phone. I realized she didn’t know that I had heard their conversation. I walked into the doorway.

"Hey," she said.

"Hey, you okay?" I asked

"Of course, why wouldn't I be?"

"I don’t know, that sounded like a pretty intense conversation," I muttered under my breath.

"What was that?" she asked flashing that beautiful smile.

"Oh, nothing I was just saying how great you look tonight.” I said, she blushed.

"I don't look that great, and my mom picked out this dress."

"You look beautiful to me." She blushed even more. "So what do you do for fun around here?" she asked motioning to the rest of the house

"I have an idea," I said giving her a mischievous smile.
