The Only Exception

It's Zayn Malik before One Direction. Zayn and Lucy develop a relationship despite their popularity statuses. They love each other, but is it worth losing friends and family? Will their struggle to cope with outside forces end up in vain or will they have the happily ever after?

I told Mike about how I ditched the group so I could hang out with Zayn. I also told them how I realized that they weren’t actually my friends, because if they were, they would be as understanding as Mike was. Mike nodded his head.

“I understand,” Mike said.

“What do you think they’ll do if I do continue hanging out with Zayn?” I whispered.

“What can they really do? It’s not as though they’re going to follow you around at school and make sure you don’t hang out with him.”

“But Sheila will,” I said.

“What do you mean?” he asked. I showed him Sheila’s text. “Wow, she must really hate you, huh,” he said.

I chuckled, “I guess.”

“It’s going to be ok. You guys can hang out over at his house. I’ll be your alibi, or whatever they call it,” he said. I smiled. “I kind of owe you it anyways ‘cause I’m the one who pushed you guys together,” he said seriously.

“Oh Mike,” I said and then hugged him.

“I’m going over to Zayn’s place. You want to come?” he asked.

Inside, I jumped at the invitation, but I knew I would be pushing it. “I think I’m grounded for the rest of my life,” I teased. “So, I’ll have to deny, unfortunately,” I said.

“Yeah,” Mike said silently. “I guess I’ll be going then,” he said as he stood up.

“Could you tell him something,” I quickly said, standing up as well.

“Yeah, anything,” he smiled.
