27. Can I Kiss You?

Zayn's P.O.V.

“What are we waiting for,” asked Liam. We had dropped off the groceries at the rented house and then I forced Liam to come back with me.

“We’re waiting for someone,” I corrected.

“Who?” he asked.

“Hold your horses,” I said. I parked the car in front of the entrance so that we would be able to see everyone who came in and out.

After a couple of minutes, I could see Liam was getting impatient. “Who are you looking for?” he asked turning to face me. I looked around his shoulder towards the entrance and smiled.

“Her,” I said. Liam turned back around and wolf whistled. “Dude,” I said, playfully slapping his arm. Liam laughed. We watched as Lucy pushed her cart towards her car. The wind kept blowing back her curls, which she had cut much shorter, her flowery skirt that was being blown around, and the simple white shirt she wore made her seem so much more beautiful than I remembered.

“Who is she,” Liam asked.

“Lucy,” I whispered.

“Why’d you bring me here? I just think I’ll interrupt this little get together.”

I sighed. “Liam, I haven’t seen her in years. She was my first everything and then she suddenly dumped me and now skip six years, and here we are,” I said, telling him the short version.

“Ouch,” he said.

“Yeah,” I sighed. We watched as she packed her groceries in the car and then shut the door closed. Then she leaned against her door to wait. “Ok, I think we can go to her now,” I said, hopping out of the car. I went around the car, expecting Liam to be there as well, but all I heard was the car doors lock. Lucy had already spotted me and waved. I waved back and then went over to the passenger seat. I knocked on the window, but he only shook my head. I searched my pockets for the keys but then remembered Liam had taken them from my hand. I watched as Liam moved to the driver’s seat and then drove the car out of parking lot and away from me.

“Liam!” I shouted at the car, even though I knew he wouldn’t hear me. I sighed and turned back around to see Lucy laughing. I walked over to her and leaned against her car, waiting for her laughing to end.

She sighed after a few moments. “Did Liam Payne just steal your car?” she asked, suppressing even more giggles.

“Yeah,” I grinned. I turned around to face her car. It was a midnight black convertible mustang. “This is so American of you,” I teased.

“I didn’t realize how much I wanted one until I moved here,” she said sadly. I felt a pang in my chest as she said those words. “Would you like to take a ride on it?” she asked, more cheerfully this time.

I nodded before answering. “Sure, why not? It’s not like I didn’t just get robbed,” I joked. She laughed and then went over to the driver’s seat. I sat next to her on the passenger seat. We didn’t say anything for a while until she was on the highway.

“You don-” Lucy started.

“Where-” I interrupted. We both laughed and then sighed sadly. “You first,” I said instead.

“I’m sorry,” she smiled, facing the road. Her hair was being blown by the wind, and as I glanced at her, it appeared as though she fit in just fine in LA. Her hair was a lighter shade of brown and her skin was golden. I noticed she seemed more tone, as though she had been working out all this time. I smiled at the thought. The Lucy I knew would never work up a sweat. “I hope you don’t mind if I drop off the groceries at home. I don’t want anything spoiled,” she said, interrupting my thoughts.

“Yeah, no problem,” I said. She exited off the highway and then we were in a suburban area. We passed several huge mansions, each house possessing a different personality. “Wow,” I breathed. “You must be living the life of the rich and famous,” I teased.

She chuckled and then turned a right onto a driveway belonging to the biggest house in the area. I stared foolishly as she carried the groceries in nonchalant. I closed my mouth as I helped her carry in the groceries. As we carried in the last of it, Lucy offered my some lemonade. As I drank it, I nearly spit it out as I remembered something.

“Mike!” I nearly shouted. “Is he here?” I said, getting excited that I would finally be seeing my friend after all these years.

Lucy laughed and shook her head. “Mike will be extremely happy to see that you’re here, but he’s currently filming his newest movie,” she smiled.

“Mike’s a director?” I asked, surprised because I didn’t think he’d be interested in that.

“Yeah, apparently my dad has connections here and used them to get Mike’s ideas on the big screen. And for the most part, they’re pretty good movies. I’m really proud of him,” she beamed, finishing her lemonade. “Do you want some more?” she asked.

“Can I kiss you?” I asked impulsively. I don’t know what came over me, but all I wanted was to be closer to her. I tried to forget the pain and the shock of the break up and everything else. I just wanted her and I hoped she would give me at least that.

Lucy paused and took a step back. “I’m sorry Zayn, it’s just that I’m…” she began, and then shook her head. “I’m such a directioner Zayn, and I can’t believe you’re asking me that, even after all these years.”

“Well I’m the one who should be surprised that you would give me a second chance,” I smiled. She smiled, and then looked at me confused, but before she could really focus on what I just said, I kissed her. At first she hesitated, but then her arms were around my neck, pulling me closer and closer. I forgot about how hurt I felt and even about Perrie; I just wanted Lucy and this kiss brought back all the reasons why I fell in love with Lucy in the first place. The kiss grew harder and more passionate, and then Lucy pulled away, breathless.

“Zayn,” she gasped, shaking her head. “Zayn, I’ve missed you so much, but I decided that I had to let this go if I was ever going to get over you.”

“Lucy, love, no you don’t have to. At least not right now,” I begged.

“Can I show you my room,” she asked nervously. I nodded desperately.
