4. Chapter 4

Okay so, security freaked me out just a bit. I mean they were always there. It was weird to always have these giant buff guys follow you around. And not to mention Paul. I was to shy to even say hi though. He was just intimidating.

The bowling alley wasn’t brightly lit, but wasn’t dark either. I was honestly one of the nicer ones I’d been to. I mean, not that I cared. It’s a bowling alley, not a freaking baseball stadium. The only thing I wasn’t looking forward to was the shoes. Oh god, please not those. They were just… ew.

“So, what size are you?” The guy at the front desk asked. He was tall with crooked teeth, but a cute smile and boyish face. Very good-looking. “I’m a five.” I said, and gave him a small smile as I leaned against the counter. “Small.” He commented and I shrugged. I get that a lot. He kneeled down, got the ugly as crap shoes, and put them next to my elbow. I cringed when I noticed the boy openly looking down my shirt. I got that a lot too.

“Excuse me.” I said. I took the shoes and turned away from him, walking over to where the boys were sitting. I still couldn’t believe that I was here, with these marvelous men. Everything still seemed unreal. I was frowning when I sat in an empty spot next to Zayn. That seemed like the only safe spot since Zayn was so quiet. “Do you want to go first, Ellie?” He asked, his voice so smooth and sexy. Argh. “No thanks.” I muttered, my voice sharper than I had wanted it to be. I felt a wave of guilt as I saw him suddenly look down. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it to come out like that. Sure, I’ll go first.”

All the chatting the boys were doing when I had started to talk, and they were all looking at me. With those eyes, those hypnotic eyes that I was suddenly drowning in… “So who’s ready to kick my butt?” I asked, and giggled. “I’m really bad at bowling.”

“Nah, I’m sure you’re right good.” Niall said, and it took all my willpower not to laugh at his use of words. He was so Irish it was ridiculous. I shrugged, and stood. This was going to most embarrassing ever to exist.

I picked up one of those balls and swallowed. I had never used one of these before. Only the small ones; and even then I could hardly pick those up. I huffed as the weight stretched out my arm. I heard laughter and chatter behind me, as the boys settled down. Oh gosh, please don’t be looking at me. My feet slid across the floor as I tried my best attempt at trying to throw the stupid bowling ball. It made a loud thump, and went straight into the gutter. I heard muffled chuckles from behind me and blushed scarlet. Oh joy for me.

I turned around to find them again all looking at me. I looked down as I walked over to get another ball, and tried to stop smiling. I knew what a goofy-looking smile I was making. I did that when I was nervous, shy, or embarrassed. And right now, I was all three.

I put my fingers into the large slots, and pulled up. The bowling ball had been hovering above the ground for not even a second when it slipped from my small unsteady hands. Thank God for my awesome cat-like reflexes because I moved my foot just in time not to be crushed.

I heard gasps from everyone when the damn thing hit the ground. “Babe, are you okay?” Liam said, and I could feel him beside me. I didn’t bother to look up. I knew my eyes would be round, and I would be all doe-eyed. “I’m fine.” I tried to say, but no noise came out. I cleared my throat, and swallowed back tears. “I’m fine, I swear. It missed my foot.”

There was suddenly a large warm hand on my always cold skin, and on instinct I flinched away from it. I don’t know if Liam took it personally or not.

Oh fuck it.

I picked up the ball, and held it securely in my hands this time. I quickly pranced over to the runway thingy and sent the ball speeding down it, right into the first pin.

Whoa, what the hell?! How did I just do that? I watched in utter astonishment all the pins were knocked down, and I had earned myself a strike.

I turned when I heard clapping, and cheering.
