Good Luck Charm (Book 1)

“3…2…1…” I told myself and flung open the door. No one was there, that was strange. I stepped outside to see if they were hiding behind one of the bushes, but tripped on something, I nearly fell down the stairs. Good think they invented railings, or I wouldn’t have had a firm grip on anything... “Perrie… you have a little bit more to worry about..." Danielle slowly said as she looked at the ground. There, on the ground was a large package, which looked full of something. On the outside it was clearly marked in thick, red marker: Leave the boys alone! If you contact them, I will hurt you.

3. A Fun Night

Amber’s point of view

“Let’s play a game,” Eleanor announced when the second movie was finished that night. The living room in my house was officially trashed, but I didn’t care. The air mattresses covered a bit of it, and a major clean-up was in order for the morning. I didn’t mind cleaning, because I couldn’t stand the mess.

“What kind?” Danielle quickly asked as she leaned in closer on the mattress. Her hair was pulled up in a messy bun, just like all of ours. We were wearing our comfy pyjamas enjoying the night and pigging out.

“We spin a bottle, and whoever it lands on has to explain how they got their boyfriends attention.”

“Sounds good!” I leaned over the mattress, nearly falling in the process, and pulled up an empty coke bottle from the floor. “Here, Perrie, you can spin first.” I handed her the bottle, and we cleared a way amidst all our blankets on the mattresses.

“Okay… I hope it lands on…. Eleanor! I love that story!” Perrie excitedly explained as she spun the bottle. It spun around five times; I counted just to be sure. Sure enough, it landed on me.

“Okay! Go Amber!” Danielle quickly said as she patted my back for support. “Yours is the luckiest.”

“Thanks,” I laughed as I recalled the memory. “I had always loved the boys, and I considered myself their number one fan. One day, my local radio station said caller number 48 got to have a free front row One Direction ticket, I got it. So, I went to the concert without any makeup because I knew I’d be crying my eyes out in excitement. I kept singing out my lungs, and I always had this feeling that Niall was watching me. I saw Liam nudge Niall and point in my direction a few times, and Niall furiously blushed leaving Liam to laugh.”

“I remember,” Eleanor interrupted me. “I laughed, because I had my eyes on you too, Amber.”

“Yeah…” I thought back for a moment of what to say next. “So, he came up to the place where I was, and gave me a high-five. When our hands left contact, I felt something sticky on my hand, and he just winked at me and smiled. The note said that I was beautiful, and that he wanted to get to know me better. So, I phoned the number he gave me, and he answered it and said we should get to know each other. We did, and eventually we dated.” I smiled at the memory, and my heart fluttered. “Love at first sight, that’s what he always says.”

“It is though,” Perrie sighed. “I knew Zayn before he got famous… it’s kind of funny thinking about him when he was on the Xfactor… we were both soo young!”

“Niall’s my good luck charm,” I gave a funny smile thinking about it, making all the girls laugh.

“He’s Irish! If he were mine, he’d be my charm too,” Perrie declared with a giggle.

We all woke up that morning to sound of my cell phone ringing. It was only nine in the morning. When I heard it ring, I automatically turned around and tried to ignore it.

“Answer it!” Danielle insisted in a groggy voice. I heard her turn around and pull her pillow around her ears.

“Okay… fine…” I mumbled as I aimlessly put my arm over the edge to retrieve my phone. “Hello? This is Amber speaking… if it isn’t important I’d rather you just phone back later…”

“Morning, Beautiful.” It was Niall. Suddenly I was awake and regretted ever saying it.

“Morning, my Niall. Sorry I said that…”

                “Did I wake you up?”

                “Maybe…but it’s fine. Why aren’t you sleeping?”

“Jet lag,” Niall grumbled and said a bad word.

“Niall! Don’t say that!” I scorned, and then I saw Eleanor was laughing at me.

“Sorry… I just wanted to say good morning,” Niall replied in a tired voice. I heard a chip bag crackle, but decided not to make a mention of it.

“That’s fine… what are you doing?”

“Watching TV and eating Nandos...I managed to find one which is take out!”

“That’s great!” I laughed. Figures… Perrie’s phone started to ring, followed by Danielle’s and Eleanor’s.

“You don’t care, do you?” Niall said in a small, sad voice.

“I do, Niall! I care about how you get your food!” I instantly sat up and sighed. “I’m just tired… that’s all. Was a late night, last night.”

                “You mean an early morning?”

I laughed; he always had a way of reading me.

                “What are you doing now?”

“Ummm… sitting on an air mattress watching these girls answer their phones… are you planning something Niall James Horan?!” I demanded in a stern voice. Suddenly it clicked… they were!

“Why would I ever do that??” I heard a laugh on the other end, and I knew it was his. I knew that laugh anywhere.

“Spit it out, boy, or I’ll hang up! You know how I detest surprises!”

                “Sorry, Amberger, no can do.”

“What?! Why?” I exclaimed. I could see the other girls were busy chatting on their phones to their boyfriends, and if I listened closely, I could hear their conversations in the background of Niall.

“It’s a surprise…” His voice was filled with stealth, and it scared me.

“GIRLS! The guys are planning something against us! Should we hang up?” I asked, holding the speaker so Niall couldn’t hear. Instantly the other girls covered their speakers too and looked at me.

“Yes!” they all cried after a few seconds hesitation. We all said our goodbyes and hang up.

Eleanor’s Point of view

I said goodbye to Louis quickly without giving a reason. He sounded confused, almost a bit hurt by my rapid decision to end the conversation so suddenly. He knew it wasn’t like me unless something big was happening, and he knew it wasn’t.

“Thanks, Amber!” Danielle said as she breathed a sigh of relief. “I thought something was up since I could hear Niall say ‘Amberger’ in the distance. You are never going to get rid of that name, Sweetie,” she told Amber, and we all laughed. She had only earned that name by saying she loved hamburgers, and since that day Niall called her that.

“I wonder what they were planning,” I thought out loud. “Maybe we should phone them back…” I really wanted to, and explain everything to Louis, but that would be betraying the girls.

“NO!” they all cried at once, and then laughed. Was I the only one who liked a good surprise now and then?

“I’d rather not know,” Amber slowly said. “I don’t like it when they surprise us.”

“But it’s always something cute,” I insisted. The boys were romantic in their own way.

Danielle’s phone then started to ring, and she quickly answered it. “Liam! Ya… ah uh…” she then put it on speaker phone and we heard the boys talking all at once while moving around.

“What?” Amber sounded confused, but then I saw her face light up when the guitar started playing. Niall was playing; we all knew she was crazy about that boy and his guitar.

“I’ve tried playing it cool… but when I’m lookin’ at you; I can’t ever be brave; cause you make my heart race,” Liam sung. It made me smile; it seemed Liam was singing just for Danielle, I looked at saw her blush.

The song (One Thing) continued, and when the song finished we all started to clap and cheer. It made me feel especially lucky to be part of the One Direction family.
