Saint Whitley's Academy

*This came from a dream so it's a little scattered right now. Please bare with me <3 Jael has lived her life with a handful of things that were precious to her, one of them being her mother. But when Charles Benson comes into their lives, things change. He's rich and powerful and after a short time, marries Jael's mother, Andrea. When the idea of sending Jael to boarding school is brought to the table, Andrea cannot do anything but accept fearing that she and Jael will be back on the street. The boarding school is just like any other, huge and terrifying. Will Jael be accepted? Or will the eat her alive? She doesn't know. All that she's been told is that Halloween is the biggest holiday because it's the only one that the whole school celebrates together. Her new roommate, Angela tells her how the school goes on complete lockdown - it's like a giant horror house with holograms of ghosts and other disturbing sights. But what if they aren't all holograms? What if some of them...are real?

5. Hallway Strangers

My plate was full when I dumped the contents of it in the trash. After an exhilarating conversation about how Nicole and Paul had fallen for the same guy, we were dismissed from the cafeteria and my next adventure of finding my way back to my bedroom proved to be a mission. The hallways had cleared but I still found myself searching for the identical set of rooms that mine just so happened to be attached to.

“Are you okay?”

I hadn’t heard anyone come up behind me and hearing an unfamiliar voice made me jump.

Face to face with possibly the best looking guy I’d ever seen in my seventeen years of life, my breath caught in my throat and my heart stopped from pure embarrassment. “I’m okay.”

He laughed. “You don’t look okay.” He pushed his messy brown hair from his face exposing a pair of beautiful blue eyes. His

I sighed defeated. “I’m lost”

He held out his hand.  “I’m Nate, nice to meet you, Lost.”

Smiling, I reached out and touched his hand with mine. “My name is actually Jael. Lost is my penname.”

“Pretty name,” Nate said. “You’re real one.”

Nate was charming and funny and everything I never thought a guy could be in one person. Usually they had a few good qualities but lacked in other areas. He seemed to be the perfect package.

“This is Angela’s room,” he said to me. “Do you remember which side you’re on?”

I pointed at the door to the left. “Thanks for helping me find my way.”

He waved me off. “Don’t worry about it. It was nice meeting you.”

Nate’s head hung low and he shoves his hands in his pockets as he walked away and I stood there like an idiot with my hand on my door knob watching him leave. I’ve kissed boys before but I never really put much thought behind it. Nate, on the other hand, my mind was going insane wondering what it would be like to kiss him.

He didn’t look back though I wish he would have.

Angela’s door creaked open and she poked her head out. Seeing that I was alone, she waved frantically at me. “Come here!”

I snapped out of the images of Nate’s lips on mine. “What?”

“Come. Here!”

My body went forward and the second I was in her room, Angela slammed the door shut.

“Please. Do not tell me that you were just with Nate Addison.”

“I didn’t catch a last name….”

“You cannot and I repeat CANNOT be spending time with Nate Addison.”

She said his first and last name together like it was a plague. Like without it I wouldn’t understand what she was talking about. Joke was on her because I still didn’t understand what she was talking about.

I sat down on her bed. “Dare I ask why?”

Angela paced back and forth. “You don’t want to know. I’m sorry I left you alone but I had to… do something. Please, take my advice and never go anywhere near him again.”

Her halfassed answers weren’t amusing. “But why not?”

She stopped moving. “You wouldn’t believe me if I told you.”

“Well, I’m not going to not talk to him if he comes up to me. That’s rude.”

Angela rolled her eyes. “I’d rather be rude and alive than nice and dead.”

“What is that supposed to mean?”

“If I tell you something, you have to not freak out. I know you like all that scary shit but this is real life, not some movie director named West Raven.”

“Wes Craven,” I corrected her.

“Whatever!” She pulled her blonde hair back into a pony tail. “Nate is known for being a B.L.B.”

I stared waiting for some kind of explanation.

“Bad luck boyfriend.” She gave me a “duh” look like I was supposed to know what B.L.B. meant.

“Are we going to play twenty questions or are you going to tell me what the hell you’re talking about?”

Angela grabbed her pink computer chair and pulled it right in front of me to sit down. “Listen, this is going to sound crazy but remember how I told you about that Halloween thing?” I nodded my head slowly. “Two years ago, it was the first year Nate was here. He was dating my friend Erika and they were serious, really serious. So, the first Halloween that they were together, the whole lockdown thing happened, Nate and Erika got separated from us and when the lights came back on, Erika was gone.”

I let out a nervous laugh. “You can’t seriously think that Nate had anything to do with that.”

She shook her head. “We didn’t, not then. We thought that maybe Erika found a way out. She was always talking about how she wanted to leave the place. But then Nate’s next girlfriend wouldn’t talk to anyone after the Halloween lockdown. Same thing happened, they got separated and she was found, but not for days after. From what I heard, she’s in a mental ward.”

“Maybe you’re looking at the wrong variable,” I told her. “You said it yourself. Both incidences happened during the Halloween lockdown. Maybe it’s not Nate at all but the lockdown.”

Shaking her head, Angela stood up again. “No. It’s him, everyone knows it’s him.”

I left Angela promising that I would leave the door to my bedroom open so she could see inside from hers. She was really shaken from the story she told me about Nate. In a way, I was surprised she didn’t try to share the bed that night. I wasn’t going to lie and say that I wasn’t a little disturbed myself but I wasn’t convinced that Nate had anything to do with what happened to those girls. Unfortunately, my hormones may have had something to do with that assumption.
