The Day that Changed my Life

Kade, an indonesian girl, suffers from the loss of her parents. She is shipped off to be adopted, but where will she go, who will she meet and how will she survive?

1. The Plane

I was sitting in a tightly squished chair in a thing they called a plane. There were people, my age, sitting all around. The person next to me (on my right) had long dark hair all the way down her back and was wearing a dress, it was a white dress with flowers on it, though a tattered rag the dress really suited the girl. But it was unsuitable for the occasion we were on this plane for...

I was in my house when it happened, having some cereal, i was one of the lucky ones. I had a house, clothes, food and I had family. I had a Mom, a Dad, an Auntie, an Uncle and even a Cousin. the ground had started to shake my milk spilled down my top and then my bowl fell off of our old rickety table, a loud crash was heard but it wasn't my bowl. I ran out the house, not even looking for my family to make sure they were safe, I ran to the designated shelter for my town and hid. The ground was shaking above my head and  looked around me, not a single member of my family was in the small, packed, shelter with me. I screamed their names over and over again, until the ground stopped shaking and I took a look outside. The houses were in ruins and the streets torn up not a single outsider could have survived this, but I had to check...

The plane bumped down onto the ground and a tall lady walked up the isle next to me, I peeped out of the window and saw a world full of concrete and shimmering glass as tall as the tallest trees and yet still not reaching the Sun.

the lady now stood at the head of the plane, she spoke in a loud, clear voice "Boys and Girls of the Indonesia Earthquake please listen up" the whole plane went silent "you are now orphans and shall rely on sponsors or adoption if your lucky...You must be able to accept that anyone who adopts you is your best friend, they care for you, love you, cherish you and look after you... this may be hard for some of you to grasp, but it is your survival" there was a ceremonial pause before she spoke again " those of you have learnt the basics of the English language, rise and follow me." Only 3 of us raised, and the lady sighed.

I followed her out of the plane, down long silver steps (this shining place was far from what i had imagined the haven of England to look like).

As we walked she spoke "now all of you are going to be taking further English lessons... so you can be adopted, by new families"
