The Day that Changed my Life

Kade, an indonesian girl, suffers from the loss of her parents. She is shipped off to be adopted, but where will she go, who will she meet and how will she survive?

The English teacher droned on and on, i was trying to think of trivial things to stop me from busting into tears like everyone else. I already new these verbs:

hello meant halo, good morning meant selamat pagi, good evening meant selamat malam, what is your name? meant siapa namamu?, my name is Kade meant namaku kade, how are you? meant apa kabar? and fine thank you meant  baik-baik saja terima kasih. They were the basics and i knew them already, there was nothing to keep me lapsing back into, back into the terror of that moment...

The realization hit me first, i was alone looking, screaming flying through the pile of ruble that used to be my house, calling their names over and over as i had done in the shelter, but just like in the shelter. It was no use i was ALONE.

I bent down and cried in what had been my parents half of the bedroom.

...i quickly lapsed out when i heard someone crying, but it wasn't me. i turned my attention to the poor little girl next to me, she had short shoulder-length waves and wisps of it crowned her baby face and big brown eyes. "siapa namamu" i murmered to her as she wept, when she didn't reply i said "jangan khawatir domba kecil" (don't worry little lamb) her sobs reduced to hiccups and she murmered back "namaku Katiya" "namaku Kade" i said in reply as i stared at the poor little girl, i just had to help her for she was not my age at all she was barely eight if that compared to my 14.

And that was the day I met my new best friend Katiya...
