44. Reality Check

When we got to Nando's, it was quiet and not a lot of people were there- my kinda night. Lou parked the car, put it in park, and then turned it off. Everyone got out of the car but I stayed there.

I was taking inventory of my life. A few months ago, I didn't think I would meet my celebrity crush, have him like me, become best friends with all of them, be engaged to one of them, have a house with him, AND do it all with my best friend and horse. I mean, how many people could have this? And to think it all started with a simple Twitter Question.

A gust of cold air sucked me out of my thoughts. I looked up and saw the face of my fiancee`.

"Is everything all right?" Louis asked.

"Yeah, I was just thinking about my life right now," I told him with a smile. "How long were you standing outside of the door?" I asked, looking around seeing no one was there.

"About two minutes. What were you thinking about?"

"Just my life in general," I replied with a smile.

"Okay, well everyone is inside," he told me whilst helping me out of the car. We walked into Nando's and I felt my phone buzzing. I pulled it out my pocket and looked at the Caller I.D., it was my mother.

"Mom? What's wrong?" I asked.

"It's your father," she sounded like she was crying.

"Mom? What's wrong with dad?"

"He... he... he...."

"Mom?! What's wrong with dad?!" I replied almost in tears.

"They found something again,"

"In  his neck," she replied whilst crying.

"I'm coming home," I told her.

"Alyssa you don't ha-"

"I'm getting the next flight," I cut her off.

"How are you getting Tundra home?" She asked with a sniffle of her nose.

"I'll come home first then ship him over I guess. Most of his stuff I can pack right now," I replied.

"Alyssa... You don't have to come home. They're going to do radiation and it's supposed to shrink it, even make it disappear. Then they will continue the chemo after a few rounds of radiation," she told me with a calm voice. I still wanted to go home to be there for him. I looked up at Louis and saw utter confusion on his face.

"I'll get a flight for a few days. It'll give me time to get something for Tundra and get him packed up," I told her.

"Okay. Is Louis coming with you? I don't think he wants to see your father without ha-" she cut herself off.

"Dad doesn't have hair now?" I asked with tears streaming down my face.

"He lost it a few days after you left," she replied. I just broke into tears and let out sobs. "Oh hunny, don't cry. He looks rather handsome with no hair. He actually told me that we would save money on hair products," she told me with a small laugh. The tears were still falling down my face and Louis' arms were around my waist.

"Mom, I have to go. I'll call you later because we are at dinner. I love you and I'll see you in a few days," I told her. I still had tears falling but knowing I would be seeing my family in a few days made me smile.

"I love you baby girl. I'll see you soon," she said and then hung up. That's when I bawled. Lou wrapped his arms around me and just let me cry into his chest.

"Alyssa? What's wrong?" He asked with a sweet voice.

"M-my d-daddy ha ca-ca-ca," I couldn't get the word out. It stung like poison in my throat.

"What's wrong with your dad?"

"He has ca-ca-cancer again. Not only in his lung but his neck and he l-lost all of his h-hair. I have to g-go home in like two days. Me and T-tundra and I d-don't think I can go on t-tour babe," I told him with sobs escaping my mouth. I couldn't believe this was happening! It was defiantly a wake up call and a reality check.

"Lets go home, just me and you," he whispered into my ear. I agreed so we walked into Nando's and told them we were going home. They saw me crying but I didn't answer. We walked back out to the parking lot. Louis helped me into the car and then he walked around the car, got in, started the car, and then pulled out of the parking lot. The ride was silent and it gave me to much time to think. I didn't even notice that we were home and Louis was carrying me into our house. He was turning lights on as we we walked throughout the house. When we got to our room, he placed me on the bed then he pulled his phone out of his pocket. He was calling Paul explaining the story and telling him to get the private jet we had that brought us hear. Paul was getting things put together and we were going to leave around noon. A truck and trailer was picking up Tundra and a limo was taking us to the airport at 10:20 and our flight was at 12:15.

I got up from the bed to call Julia. She answered on the 2nd ring.

"Alyssa? What's happening?"

"I'm going home and Tundra and Lou are coming with me. We found out my dad has cancer again," I told her with no emotion on my face.

"I'm coming," she told me.

"Julia, you don't have to. It's okay,"

"I'm coming. Both me and Niall are and so it Sweet Pea. You need a friend to lean on. I know that you have Louis but I want to be there for you," she told me with a sweet voice.

"Thanks Julia," I told her with a weak smile. I told Lou to call Paul back and tell him that Julia, Niall, and Sweet Pea were coming. He agreed and called Paul. Her and I said good-bye and then I started packing.

About an hour of packing me and Lou's stuff, him and I walked out to the barn to pack the horses' things. I pulled out my trunk into the middle of the feed room and started putting all of my stuff in it. All of the feed was next to it and then I started packing Julia's stuff. It gave me something to do with my hands. I couldn't have free time or I would cry again. Lou lifted the heavy stuff for me and then I turned around to speak with him.

"Stay right here. I have to talk to Tundra," I told him with no emotion on my face. He nodded and I walked to Tundra's stall. I opened the door and he walked tight up to me, sensing something was wrong.

"Tundra.... Nothing goes right anymore. I can't do it anymore! Everything always has to go bad for me! Why?" I started crying into his mane. I let go of his strong neck and I sunk to the floor in the middle of the stall. I pulled my knees to my chest and then hugged my knees. Tundra circled around me then laying down so I could lean against his belly. He was so careful where he put his strong legs. Those same legs carried us through so many adventures together. His neck was wrapped around me and his head was nudging my legs.

I laid down right in the middle of his stall. My head was resting on his front right leg and I just broke down into silent sobs and tears. Why does everything bad happen to me and the people I love? Did I do something horrible to deserve this? I asked this to myself for awhile and then I fell asleep with wet cheeks.

**Louis' P.O.V.**

I was standing in the middle of the feed room where Alyssa told me to stand. She was in there for awhile so I walked to Tundra's stall. I opened the door and what I saw was so... I can't describe it.

Alyssa looked like a little girl. Her head resting on Tundra's leg and he was looking at her, watching over her. He looked up at me as if he was saying "I'll watch over her. You can go back to the house."

"Thank you boy," I whispered to him. I walked out of the barn and back up to the house.

**Tundra's P.O.V.**

I knew something was wrong with Alyssa the moment her and that boy she calls Louis walked into the barn. I heard them packing me and Sweet Pea things. I guess we were going home! I like this place but I missed all of my friends back at home.

When Alyssa entered the stall, I felt the sadness enter the room. When she started talking about her dad, I knew the so-called thing called cancer was back. She just sat down on my stall floor and started to cry. I circled around her and then laid down, making sure she wouldn't get hurt. I let her cry, I knew she needed me but I really wanted my hay. She eventually fell asleep, her breathing slowed down and it was calm. I was able to reach some of my hay but I didn't want to take the chance and wake her up.

A few minutes Louis came in and I looked at him telling him I would protect her. He thanked me and walked back up to the house.

Don't get me wrong, I like Louis but I feel like he's taking Alyssa away from me. I know she has a life to live but I didn't think it was going to come this quick. I also knew that Louis was in that huge band One Direction that Alyssa made me listen to with Julia and Sweet Pea. They were tolerable and she always loved them, I had to admit that their music was good but she always was with him.

I missed running around everywhere but who knows what's going to happen since they might be touring the world while I'm stuck at home! But that run earlier today felt so good and knowing that she chose to do that made it feel even better! Knowing I make her happy makes me feel great. I don't even remember the beatings from the old owners of my past.

"You dumb piece of shit! Get in the trailer!" The evil man yelled at me. He had the whip raised getting ready to beat me. I was refusing the trailer because I knew I wouldn't see the sky and it might of meant something horrible. I refused and pulled the lead out of the drunk man's hand and ran towards the barn. I saw his daughter and hid behind her trembling with fear and terror.

"Gretchen! Give me that dumb horse!" He exclaimed, slurring his words. The daughter looked at me and she replied with a no. She climbed on my back and we ran towards town. The police saw us and the girl explained everything from him beating us. The police looked at me, seeing my ribs and bruises on both of us. He called someone and they brought a trailer. I loaded onto this one because I knew it was saving me.

When I got to the new place, I sprung off of the trailer. For the first time in my 4 year old life, I saw green grass, and nice hay. I was there for a few weeks until Alyssa and her father checked me out and took me home that day.

**Flashback Over**

For 4 years, I've been with Alyssa and we can do anything with each other. She taught me everything I know and I did everything with flying colors. I can now do a barrel pattern in 16 seconds and poles in 18 seconds. A few years after I was with Alyssa, the daughter came back and Alyssa knew who she was. I guess they were old friends and knew each other from school because she came back a few times to make sure I was okay. I never saw the man though- thank god.

I ended up falling asleep an hour after Alyssa but I made sure she was okay.

*Alyssa's P.O.V.**

When I woke up, Tundra was still lying besides me and he woke up when he felt me stirring besides him. I looked at the clock that was on the wall in the feed room and it was 8:00. I got from the stall floor and got feed for the horses and feed them. After that I went into the house and everyone was still asleep so I quietly got my clothes and took a shower. When I got out of the shower, I charged my phone and got dressed. I put my boots on and walked back out to the barn. I grabbed Tundra's halter and 2 lead ropes, walked into his stall, hooked him up, and hopped on. I knew he wanted to run but I held him back for a little bit. When We got to the big main field, I opened him up and ran him, eating the ground behind us and just being free. We ran and ran and I was actually smiling for the first time since last night.

I couldn't believe he was my horse and how far he's come since the day I brought him home. He had major trust issues and it took me awhile to do what I was doing right now.

When we got back to the barn I got off of him and put him back in his stall. After I hugged him and gave him kisses, I walked back to the house and saw it was 9:00 and Julia and Niall were almost done packing. About an hour later, the limo, truck, and trailer arrived and we loaded our luggage first, then the horses' luggage, then the horses last so they didn't have to be in a confined place for too long.

About an hour later we were at the airport and we went through security then loaded the horses onto the plane, settled ourselves in and then took off. I went back into Tundra's stall when we were able to leave our seats.

"Someone get me when I have to go back to my seat," I said whilst walking into his stall. I leaned against the wall near his hay and was just thinking. I eventually fell asleep.

Hey guys! Hope everyone had a nice holiday and I just wanted to thank you for everything: the likes, comments, and favorites!

While writing this chapter I have 'All You Ever' by Hunter Hayes on replay and it is such a good song! Also, I'm probably not going to update both of my stories because I have to go to the barn tomorrow, a sleepover with my friend, family coming over, and then NYC all in a matter of 3 days! Then I have to do homework! I hate how my teacher gives me homework over brake!

Anyway I'm going to bed because I have to get up at 8:30 AM and it's midnight!

~Alyssa (: xx
