45. Hard Times

When we landed, my parents were waiting for us with the truck, trailer, and my mom's SUV. When I saw my dad, I dropped everything and ran towards him with tears in my eyes.

"Daddy!" I exclaimed through the tears.

"It's gonna be okay my baby girl," he whispered in my ear. We hugged for a long time and during that time, he was humming 'My Little Girl' by Tim McGraw in my ear. We let go and I walked back to Lou to get my bags and trunks. When we loaded the truck, Julia and I got the horses off of the jet and loaded them in the trailer.

"Good boy," I whispered to Tundra whilst securing him in and my dad was putting the butt-bar up and closed the doors. I got out of the trailer from the side door and hopped into the driver's seat of my mom's SUV. I focused on the road and trailer carrying my best friend in front of me. Also, I was trying so hard not to cry and I think Louis knew.

"Alyssa?" He started.

"Yeah babe?"

"I know this is hard for you but I'm here for you. I want you to love yourself like I love you. I know these things are hard and those are just little things to get over," he said whilst trying to quote his song.

"This isn't a little thing Lou. It's cancer and it is life-changing. I don't want to go through it again! I hate how this happens to me and no one else! The only good thing that happened to me in the past 4 years was getting Tundra and meeting you! My life sucks!" I exclaimed almost in tears.

"I know babe but we can get throu-"

"Don't..... Don't say we can go through this together because I will be a mess and you don't want to see me like that and then you'll end up leaving like all of the others," I said speaking below a whisper.

"I will never leaver you Alyssa. When will you understand that?" He asked with a small smile. He took my hand and gave it a small squeeze. "I love you,"

"I love you too Lou," I replied with a gentle squeeze of his hand. After an hour of driving, we pulled up the familiar gravel driveway. The horses in the trailer were calling to their buddies in the front field. The horses in the field began to run along side the fence trying to keep up with the trailer.

My dad parked the truck and I stopped the car. I jumped out of the car and then to the trailer. I opened the door and saw Tundra staring at me. I walked on the trailer, snapped the lead onto Tundra's halter, and waited for my dad to open the trailer. When he did, he put the ramp down and undid the butt-bar. I unclipped the snap that connected Tundra to the trailer and started backing him up and off of the trailer.

He looked around and saw his other friends like Scout the solid paint with a nice blaze on his face, Dreamer the Kiger Mustang the looked the Spirit from that animated movie, Legend the leopard Appaloosa, Rudy the tiny pony that looked exactly like Tundra but much smaller, Missy the old Arabian mare who was there for me, Cody the palomino who was awesome and barrels, and lastly; Lottie my other amazing barrel horse. She was a solid paint with a cool blaze on her face, a white stocking on each leg, a white spot on her neck that stood out from her chestnut coloring, and a huge white mark on her belly.

I led Tundra to the gate and I heard Julia and Sweet Pea following us. Both horses were prancing, knowing they were going to be reunited with their friends. The horses in the field were galloping to to the gait.

"Hey guys! I missed you! Especially you Lottie and Legend and Missy!" The three horses came up to greet me along with Rudy the little pony. I turned Tundra back out and then headed back to the barn to unpack everything. I walked back to the barn and my little puppy Casey greeted me.

"Casey! You got so big! I'm so sorry I couldn't take you to Europe," I said to her. I walked back into the trailer's tack room and grabbed my truck and all of my other horse items. I walked back into the barn and saw my sister with her little Quarter Horse Bullet. She was talking to him and I heard some sniffles like she was crying.

"Kylee? Are you okay?" I asked.

"I'm just worried about everything and I needed to talk to Bullet," she replied.

"Okay well I'm going to unpack my barn stuff so just ignore me," I told her. I walked back to the trailer and grabbed my saddle, bridle, and saddle pad. I walked into the tack room and like every time, I look at the old pictures hanging up on the wall.

There was a picture with me and Tundra the day we brought him home. Another one from Tundra and I at our first game show, we were doing poles. We won all of our classes and there were 5 of them we entered which meant 5 blue ribbons. The next picture was me and on my first pony Rosie. We had to put her down a few years ago. The next picture was with all of my family and Julia with our old dogs a few months ago during the winter; we had them professionally done. Another picture was me, Julia, my brother, sister, and her brother when we were little when our families were on vacation in Disney World in Florida.

All of these pictures had dust and dirt on them and they all were at different time periods but there was something similar. My dad didn't have cancer. He was happy and healthy and cancer did not appear in my vocabulary.

I missed those days when cancer wasn't in my family. The only thing that didn't change was I was still my daddy's little girl. I've always been that and my dad and I have always have been close. He taught me how to ride and taught me that if you fall, you get back on again. I was done unpacking so I decided to go back to the house.

When I walked into the house Louis nearly tackled me by giving me a hug.

"Can I help you babe?" I asked with a laugh.

"I thought you would want a hug!" He exclaimed. He hugged me and spun me around. When he put me down, my dad was standing there in the kitchen taking his night medicine since it was 9:00 PM. I let go of Lou and walked over to my father.

"How do you feel Daddy?" I asked.

"I feel good pal. I'm just tired and I'm going to sleep," he replied with a smile. I kissed his cheek and then he went up to bed. I walked back over to Louis and kissed him on the lips.

"I love you," he told me with a smile. He started humming 'Little Things' in my ear as we stood in the family room hugging each other.

"I love you too babe," I said as I kissed him. "I really could go for some Yorkshire Tea with some Irish creme`," I told him. He laughed knowing he got me hooked on the stuff. He pulled away and went up the stairs to grab some of the Yorkshire Tea he brought knowing it was the only tea I would drink. He made me my cup of tea and we both curled up on the couch just talking to each other. When we finished our tea, we headed up to bed.

I got my pj's out of my dresser and put them on. I crawled into bed next to Louis and then I fell asleep.

I had some really weird dreams like telling someone to take the jumping cat off of the bed and then something about french toast. Where was I getting these from? After a few more strange dreams, I fell into a deep sleep.

When I woke up, Louis was watching me and smiling like always. "So how was your french toast and jumping cats?" He asked with a laugh.

"Oh no! It was the tea that made me sleep talk!" I replied with a laugh. He kissed  me on the forehead and wrapped his arms around me. I smiled and we laid like that for awhile.

I got up from the bed and got dressed for the day and then went to the barn.

"Morning everyone!" I exclaimed. All of the horses poked their heads out of the stall doors and I smiled. I dropped the feed and entered the tack room to get my bushes to brush almost all of the horses but when I entered Tundra's stall, he looked at me as if he was saying "I love you Alyssa. Can you brush me and then we can go for a run?"

"We can go for a run and then swim in the creek," I told him. I brushed him up really well and then I grabbed my bridle. I hopped on him and then I walked him to the back field to let him run. We took a lap around the field and then I took him onto the trail that led to the deep part of the creek. It was about 6 feet deep and then we went swimming. I felt him paddling and the water was flooding around me. We had fun so when it was time to go back to the barn. I let him run as fast as he could!

We entered the barn and I saw my mom in the barn almost in tears hugging her old horse Jack. He was a big stocky, grey Quarter Horse.

"Mom? Are you okay?" I asked her.

"Alyssa... I am not okay. I just have kept it all bottled up and it needs to come out," she replied. I ran over to her and hugged her.

"It's going to be okay mom. We have each other and I'll always come back home if you ever need me," I told her. We pulled away with smile on both of out faces. I put Tundra away and then I walked back into the house and found Louis sitting on the couch with my dad. They were watching baseball together.

My dad had no hat on and it was till hard seeing him without that. His eyebrows were no longer there or his arm and leg hair. Also, his nose hair fell out so he was always blowing his nose or sniffling. Thing smelled funny now like the sunflowers we had in the kitchen so we had to put them somewhere else. We couldn't have raw vegetables or salad. It was hard on all of us.

I sat in between them and continued to watch the game on the screen. That was how the rest of the day went pretty much. I showered and then went to bed after that.

Sorry this chapter sucked guys! I just put it in as a filler! Comment and tell me how this story is going please! I feel like it's no good anymore. I have no idea when to end it or if I should do a sequel.
