The Risk

15 year old Cassie Acquah doesn't realize what "risk" is until she gets herself stuck... The thing is, a board game isn't really the same as real life, so how will she survive when she gets thrown head-first into one. Well, I suppose she COULD fall in love with the troop leader, become a soldier and explore the world on horseback, but how will she ever get out?

4. The Risk

He found one, after five minutes of searching, at the very back of the crammed cuboard. He blew the dust and cobwebs off of it slowly. I watched him intently as he studies the box, occasionally twisting it round to have another look. The handed it to me, looking depressed, but I pinched his cheek playfully and he grinned back up at me. I wiped it over with my hand and cleared the fading over the letters. It read, in an old-fashioned, capitalized and bold font: RISK. I smiled. Papi had told me that he used to play this when he was our age, and it was supposedly really good fun. "C'mon" I chuckled as I saw Ben eying the bed longingly "You lie down for a bit and I'll teach you the rules later." And with that, I went to sit on the cloudy carpet to read over the instructions.

The rules were quite simple. Two teams, one red, one blue, who were to fight using their troops for world domination. The whole world map covered a cardboard piece and you earn points for conquering places. I lay everything out neatly on the oak floorboards and then rose up relaxed to wake Ben.

It wasn't long before we started playing. I was kind of letting Ben win so not to make him feel worse. I gave a "Oh no!" or "Nice move, I didn't see that coming" every once in a while to keep him contented, but really I was having quite a bit of fun myself. However, it wasn't until I conquered the UK that things started to get a little more... Interesting.
