The Risk

15 year old Cassie Acquah doesn't realize what "risk" is until she gets herself stuck... The thing is, a board game isn't really the same as real life, so how will she survive when she gets thrown head-first into one. Well, I suppose she COULD fall in love with the troop leader, become a soldier and explore the world on horseback, but how will she ever get out?

24. Soldier Training

The rest of the day, once the energized crowd had gotten over my feat, we spent doing more training.

I worked diligently on my sword skills, from thrusts to parries, and by the end of the day I could easily beat a few of the soldiers that had come out to watch. Nevertheless, I decided on spending most of the time shooting at the crash dummies, firstly because I liked the reaction, but also because Finnick helped me by guiding my arm across the bow.

"See, you've got to get a firm grip on the string..." he wobbled my right hand around a little, hot breath seeping onto my neck and his hands warm wrapped around mine.

"OK, I'll try..." I stuttered feebly.

"Call me if you need anything," he added sweetly, giving me a kiss on the cheek and trudging off.

I saw him look longingly over the edge of the paddock, his eyes focused: I couldn't tell what he was thinking. "Finnick?" I whispered, walking over to him and hugging his stomach with my cold hands.

He didn't answer. "Finnick?" there was a tinge of worry in my voice that was very unsubtle. I followed his vision, to a peak a couple of miles away.

I saw it, my throat closed up and I choked on nothing, Finnick stood stone still, and watched.

For there, in the distance, you could make out a lone soldier, clad in black metal and thrusting into the ground a gargantuan black flag, depicting a dragon breathing long trails of fire that licked over the edge of the fabric.

The black army were coming.
