The Risk

15 year old Cassie Acquah doesn't realize what "risk" is until she gets herself stuck... The thing is, a board game isn't really the same as real life, so how will she survive when she gets thrown head-first into one. Well, I suppose she COULD fall in love with the troop leader, become a soldier and explore the world on horseback, but how will she ever get out?

1. Papi's Not Here Anymore

"Cassieeeeeeee" warbled my little brother.

"What now, Ben?" I growled, not pausing to avert my eyes from the computer screen.

"Play with me, Cassieeeeeeee!" he whined, pouting through the corner of my vision. I covered my ears with my hands and sighed deeply.

"No," I replied bluntly, my eyes stuck on the screen and furiusly typing as if to block out the noise of his yelping. God, little brothers are so annoying.

"But-" he began, but stopped, a deep sadness growing like a thorn in my side, but in his eyes. his arms dropped to his sides and there was a long, awkward silence. Then he sauntered of, muttering "Papi would have played with me."

For some reason, this really tugged on a heartstring with me. I dont know why, but the words just kind of... poured out, like a bucket of neon pink paint spilling, as if it were a tsunami, over a dull street. "You know Papi's not here anymore! He left us, Ben, face it!" before I knew it, I could feel myslef welling up, and soon a warm tear trickled down my cheek. "Face it." my voice had drained to a raspy whisper "Go play by yourself."

But he was already gone.
