The Risk

15 year old Cassie Acquah doesn't realize what "risk" is until she gets herself stuck... The thing is, a board game isn't really the same as real life, so how will she survive when she gets thrown head-first into one. Well, I suppose she COULD fall in love with the troop leader, become a soldier and explore the world on horseback, but how will she ever get out?

26. Commencing

I awoke to the cold night air and the unmistakable clank of swords being brought together at pace. I got up in a hurry and donned my uniform and some leggings- you never know what you might need to be prepared for. I tiptoed quickly but silently into Finnick's room, and shook him hard by the shoulders.

"Wake up!" I exclaimed, tightening my grip on his shoulders. Soon, a faint flicker of firelight danced through the windows, only increasing my urgency.

His ees swam into focus. In the spur of the moment, I grasped the pail of water sitting next to his bed, the chill spreading up my arm, and threw it over his face.

"What the...?" he spluttered, confused "Oh, morning sunshine! What was-"

"No time for that, Finnick!" I interrupted "Now get dressed, I think they're here!"

It took a couple of seconds for the knowledge to process for him, but when it did, his face turned a sickly white and he stood up robotically. "I...I..." he mumbled "Stay in your room, I'll come and get you when I'm dressed."

I ran into my room and swung the door behind me, and lay on my bed, watching outside as cried of pain emanated from the field and more flames licked their way closer to me.

"Ready!" hollered Finnicks gruff voice from behind the doors, although I noticed a subtle tone of worry in his voice. I definitley wasn't ready.
