Papa, Can You Hear Me?

Greece, 2030, Post-World War 3. Greece have been kicked out of the EU. Many are left starving, and some have died. Wren, a twelve year old girl, is abandoned when her father is visciously attacked by a wolf on the streets. Left to fend for herself, the ony thing that really scares her is these visions she always has about her Mother being captured by "the enemy". When she finds out where her mother, originally thought to be dead, could be held, nothing will stand in her way to find it.


10. Tunnels

As I ambled across the forest, skin soaking in sweat mingled with blood,  my bare feet soothed by the touch of the greenery, clean and fresh, I saw it. I saw the cave with the slight jagged edge, and a carved, smooth rock face which hung over a portion of the forest ominously. I couldn’t help myself but to dash towards it in an act of stupidity… After all, my Mama could be here, and to me, she was, “WANTED. Dead or alive.”

I heaved the break in the rock, scraping my fingers so that a crimson smear was visible on the stone. It was slightly ajar and it was enough space to squeeze through. It was as if the whole world had been closed off; there was a visible ray of light beaming down the corridor and leading my path. I heard a deathly crunch under my foot and I cringed. Looking resentfully downwards to my feet, I saw that the stone beneath me was littered with dead butterflies; some beautiful ice blues and others deep blood red. I shuddered to think of the murderer of such a hapless creature, but forced my mind off the subject and carried on pacing down the narrow corridor, occasionally grazing my shoulders because the walls were so thin. That was, until I came across two barred doors, with glossy metal chains looping over them. I inhaled deeply, and strode not very confidently in…
