Pitch Slapped

Delany was a freshman in high school and orientation was where clubs recruited the 'freshies'. Many clubs asked for her to come join but they all seemed to dorky like the chess club or book club. She didn't want to be a nerd like in middle school. She wanted to stand out, shine. That's when one specific club caught her eye, not just because of the guy recruiting with his brunette curls. Just the idea of it all. Being noticed.

36. Someone Like You

I came into the theater with a big smile on my face. Today was a really good day. Harry brought me a coffee to my dorm and we spent lunch together just like old times.

"What are you so happy about?" Niall asked as I took a seat next to him and Demi.

"Oh, nothing." I lied.

"Yeah right. She's happy about her new boyfriend." Demi cooed.

"Oh shut up." I blushed.

"Honey, I saw the flowers." Demi laughed.

"Who is it?" Niall asked.

"Who do you think?" I said.

"Hazza." Niall smiled.

"Hazza?" I questioned.

"Harry, that's his nickname the lads and I gave him." Niall explained.

"Oh, yeah its Hazza." I blushed.

"That must explain why Cher's depressed." Niall mumbled.

I glanced around the room and saw Cher next to Danielle and her head in her hands. I totally forgot about her. She's going to kill me.

I saw Harry and he came and sat by us. I smiled and he put his arm around me.

"Ello loves!" Cowell came through the door, "Lets get started! Anyone have any songs they would like to sing?"

Cher's hand shot straight up. Her faced looked sad and she didn't even smile like she usually does.

"Come on up Cher!" For some reason Cowell seemed really happy today.

Cher walked up stage and grabbed the mic.

"I heard that you're settled down. That you found a girl and you're married now. I heard that your dreams came true. Guess she gave you things I didn't give to you." She began. I knew the song, Someone Like You by Adele and I didn't like where this was going.

"Old friend, why are you so shy? It ain't like you to hold back or hide from the lie. I hate to turn up out of the blue uninvited, but I couldn't stay away, I couldn't fight it. I'd hope you'd see my face and that you'd be reminded that for me it isn't over." She sang with passion. This was a different side of Cher, she was vulnerable, weak, and gentle.

"Never mind I'll find someone like you. I wish nothing but the best for you too. Don't forget me I beg I remember you said: 'Sometimes it lasts in love, but sometimes it hurts instead' Sometimes it lasts in love, but sometimes it hurts instead, yeah." She sang the chorus.

After she finished the song everyone stood and clapped except Harry, he stayed seated. We finally saw the side of Cher we were waiting for.

"Cher, that is what we have all been waiting for, the vulnerable side of you. Bravo." Cowell said his feedback. Cher slightly smiled and exited the stage.

"Why didn't you clap for her? She did amazing." I asked Harry.

"Because that song was about me." Harry mumbled.

"How do you know that?" I asked.

"I just got you to be my girlfriend and she wishes nothing but the best." Harry explained.

"Maybe it's just a-"

"Harry and Delany since you are rudely talking while I'm trying to talk why don't both of you come up and sing us a song." Cowell told us.

Great. No way out. We didn't even have a song to sing for everybody.
