Pitch Slapped

Delany was a freshman in high school and orientation was where clubs recruited the 'freshies'. Many clubs asked for her to come join but they all seemed to dorky like the chess club or book club. She didn't want to be a nerd like in middle school. She wanted to stand out, shine. That's when one specific club caught her eye, not just because of the guy recruiting with his brunette curls. Just the idea of it all. Being noticed.

10. Nerves

We clapped and cheered as Zayn and Perrie finished. Niall and I were next. I could feel my heart racing and I was getting anxious.

"Niall and Delany." Cowell called. We headed up to the stage and told the five people what we were singing they all nodded and then started.

"Do you hear me? I'm talking to you." Niall began singing. "Across the water, across the deep blue ocean. Under the open sky, oh my, baby I'm trying." He sang it perfectly. I was next.

"Boy, I hear you, in my dreams," I sang clearly and perfect, "I hear your whisper across the sea. I keep you with me, in my heart. You make it easier when life gets hard." I nailed it. All my nerves were gone.

"Lucky I'm in love with my best friend. Lucky to have been where I have been," We sang together, "Lucky to be comin' home again."

We sang the whole song perfectly and we nailed every note. Once the sing ended we turned to Cowell for feedback.

He looked at us and started to clap. Was this good? Then he smiled. Yep it was good. "I loved every little piece of that. Your voices are spectacular together. Niall I loved how you looked realyy in love with her, great acting." Cowell told us, "And Delany, oh my, you've got some pipes. I can't wait to hear your voice with Harry's, we would win Nationals for sure." He told me. We both smiled and thanked him and walked back to our seats.

I could see Cher didn't look too happy. She tried to smile, but it didn't work out too well.

"Good job." Harry whispered to me.

"Thanks." I smiled.

"Told you she could sing." Harry nudged Cher and Cher just glared at him.

"Okay, lads, let's talk about sectionals." Mr. Cowell started. "It's only four weeks away and we're going to need some ideas on what songs to sing. So I want you all to come back tomorrow with a jaw-dropping song selection we can choose from. So good job today everyone and go have fun." He shooed us away.
