Pitch Slapped

Delany was a freshman in high school and orientation was where clubs recruited the 'freshies'. Many clubs asked for her to come join but they all seemed to dorky like the chess club or book club. She didn't want to be a nerd like in middle school. She wanted to stand out, shine. That's when one specific club caught her eye, not just because of the guy recruiting with his brunette curls. Just the idea of it all. Being noticed.

23. Moment to Shine

The whole day was all rehearsal. We didn't dare talk about that kiss or anything on that subject for that matter. We sang, sang again, rest, sang some more, and took a break, and then more singing. By the end of the school day we were ready. More than ready, we were prepared.

"So, Harry and Delany, let's see what you have for us." Cowell said as we were all sitting.

Harry and I climbed on stage and grabbed the mics. I glanced at Harry, he actually looked nervous. Wait. Harry Styles looks nervous?!? Why was he scared? He knew ever word to the song! For god's sake he wrote it!

"People say we shouldn't be together, too young to know about forever." Harry started off the song. "I say they don't know what they're talk-talk talking about." Harry finished.

Oh god. I was next. I can't do this. What if I mess up? They are all going to make fun of me. I looked at each and everyone in the audience and I saw Niall smiling anticipating my solo. I glanced over and saw Liam, I think that's his name, he smiled too, but I could tell he was hurting like he just got his heart stepped on. I know that look. Liam's heartbroken.

Delany screw them right now this is you all you, so shut up and sing! I told myself, "'Cause this love is only getting stronger, so I don't want to wait any longer. I just want to tell the world that you're mine." Yes! Nerves gone, head cleared, and nothing could stop me!

"They don't know about the things we do, the don't know about the 'I love you's. But I bet if they only knew, they would just be jealous of us.'" Harry sang some of the chorus.

"They don't know about the up all nights, they don't know I've waited all my life just to find a love that feels this right.: I sang my part of the chorus. Nailed it!

"Baby, the don't know about- they don't know about us." Harry chimed in.

"One touch and I was a believer. Everyday it gets a little sweeter." Harry and I sang together slowly walking towards each other across the stage.

"It's getting better, keep us getting better all the time, girl." Harry sang coming closer to me.

"They don't know about the things we do, they don't know about the 'I love you's'" I sang getting closer to him.

"But I bet you if they only knew, they would just be jealous of us." Harry sang.

Once we finished the song our faces were inches apart and we stared at each other as everybody in the auditorium cheered and clapped. As it died down we took our eyes off each other and faced towards Cowell to see if he liked it.

"That was beautiful." Cowell said as he was clapping. "I loved it. I think we actually have a shot at wining sectionals in fact I think we could go all the way and even win Nationals. I loved your voices together. You guys are perfect, like your voices were made for each other."

"Cowell, pardon my interruption, but Harry and I aren't the only ones with good voices. Each individual in this room has a unique voice and I think you should hear their's too. Like Zayn and Perrie, when I heard the during the duets they were amazing. Cher has an amazing voice too. Danielle and Liam are perfect too. Louis and El are true performers. Niall Horan has a true gift and don't let him throw it away because I'm here. Give the other kids a chance too. Let them have their moment to shine." I told Cowell and I stepped off stage and walked out the door. The warm tears streaming down my face.
