Pitch Slapped

Delany was a freshman in high school and orientation was where clubs recruited the 'freshies'. Many clubs asked for her to come join but they all seemed to dorky like the chess club or book club. She didn't want to be a nerd like in middle school. She wanted to stand out, shine. That's when one specific club caught her eye, not just because of the guy recruiting with his brunette curls. Just the idea of it all. Being noticed.

22. Love Isn't For Me

Our lips barely touched before I quickly pulled away. "Harry, I can't do this."

"Why?" He asked.

"Just like my song I've been spending the last eight months thinking all love ever does is break and burn and end." I stood up.

"But on a Wednesday in a cafe you watched it begin again. Remember that part?" He stood up.

I started to laugh, "Harry put on some pants."

His face turned red and he walked to his closet and put on a pair of jeans. "Why can't you do this Del?"

Del. The last time someone had ever called me that was when I was six and my father was still alive. I looked down at the locket I was wearing and smiled. My father gave it to me before he left for war. "Harry, I'm sorry. I don't think I can handle a boyfriend right now."

"You know how I feel about you and I know you feel the same way so stop denying everything." He said.

"Yesterday, I over heard you and Cher in the auditorium and she said for you not to play me like you played her. I don't want to be played. Harry I'm not a piece of some stupid game you have going on." I explained to him.

"I would never play you." He said to me.

"How many girls have you played? I don't want to be another one of your victims. I don't want to become like Cher, left all heartbroken. Love isn't for me." I told him.

"I'm not a player Delany. I would never hurt you." He stepped closer to me.

"Let's just rehearse the song." I took a step back changing the subject.
