Pitch Slapped

Delany was a freshman in high school and orientation was where clubs recruited the 'freshies'. Many clubs asked for her to come join but they all seemed to dorky like the chess club or book club. She didn't want to be a nerd like in middle school. She wanted to stand out, shine. That's when one specific club caught her eye, not just because of the guy recruiting with his brunette curls. Just the idea of it all. Being noticed.

11. Don't Be Played

"So how's your song selection coming along?" Harry asked me at lunch the next day.

"Good, I have the perfect song to sing." I replied taking a seat where we usually sit.

"Oh! What song?" Harry asked excitedly.

"It's a surprise Harry!" I laughed.

"Oh, fine. Well mine will be amazing." He said.

"I bet. Your voice is spectacular." I said.

"No, it's really not." He mumbled.

"Harry!" I chucked a grape at him.

"Ow! What was that for?"

"You're a terrific singer!" I yelled.

"So are you." He smiled.

"I am an awful singer." I told him.

"And I'm pregnant." Harry said.

"What?" I laughed.

"Oh, I thought we were both saying things that weren't true." He looked at me. His eyes were staring right at mine. I quickly looked away.

Stop it. Delany, boys are overrated. You got your heart crushed in middle school. Don't fall for this boy. He's just like the others, he'll lead you on and make you think you're something special, but in the end you will be left with nothing but a shattered heart. I just can't handle another heartache. Don't be played again.
