Pitch Slapped

Delany was a freshman in high school and orientation was where clubs recruited the 'freshies'. Many clubs asked for her to come join but they all seemed to dorky like the chess club or book club. She didn't want to be a nerd like in middle school. She wanted to stand out, shine. That's when one specific club caught her eye, not just because of the guy recruiting with his brunette curls. Just the idea of it all. Being noticed.

39. Bus Ride

We all climbed on the bus, this was it, sectionals. We have been practicing for the past week non stop. Right after school we would all go to the auditorium and get right into rehearsing. We all chattered among the people next to us.

"You nervous?" Harry asked me.

"Frightened." I answered.

"Don't be you'll do fine." Harry kissed me on the cheek.

"I hope." I mumbled and glanced over my shoulder to see Niall quickly look away from me. Demi sat next to him talking to him.

Our bus ride according to Cowell would talk us forty five minutes. It was at a high school a couple towns over. All the schools in the county would be competing against each other to go onto regional's. Only one school could win and Harry says that we make it to regional's every year and we usually don't go any farther than that, but this year I hope we do. I just hope I don't screw it up for everybody.

"Boys and girls may I have your attention," Cowell stood at the front of the bus, "When we arrive we will be the fifth school to perform, so that means we have about forty five minutes to spare. I want you all to get into your attire rehearse your solos if you have any, take some deep breaths and relax. We will have the duet first, then the solo, and our showstopper will be last."

Okay, relax, breath, rehearse. I think I got this.

"Don't stress, it'll be fun." Harry whispered.

"Maybe for you because you've done this before, this is my first time Harry. I have every right to stress." I huffed.

"Delany, I've done this once before that's it. You've got to remember I'm just a sophomore. Last year I choked during my solo I was so scared, but luckily Cher immediately continued on like nothing went wrong. That's how we got through, because of her picking up where I couldn't finish." Harry explained.

"Oh, Harry, I'm so sorry," I rested my head on his shoulder, "You're right I'll do fine."
