Pitch Slapped

Delany was a freshman in high school and orientation was where clubs recruited the 'freshies'. Many clubs asked for her to come join but they all seemed to dorky like the chess club or book club. She didn't want to be a nerd like in middle school. She wanted to stand out, shine. That's when one specific club caught her eye, not just because of the guy recruiting with his brunette curls. Just the idea of it all. Being noticed.

13. Almost a Year

"Was it just me or was Cher giving us the death stair during her song?" Harry asked as we walked into the Starbuck's on campus.

"Oh so you saw it too, I thought I was going crazy." I answered as I walked up to the register and ordered a venti double chocolatey chip with extra mocha. Harry ordered a venti java chip. We took a seat as we waited for our drinks.

"She seriously needs to get over me." Harry said.

"I don't even know why she hates me." I mumbled.

"She hates you because we are always hanging out. You can sing a million times better than her. Delany, you are a threat to her." He explained.

"Why would she hate that we are hanging out?" I asked.

"Cher and I dated." He answered.

"What? You told me that when she said she liked you, you told her that you didn't like her." I told him.

"Well, after I told her she wasn't coming to any of her classes, I guess she was heart broken or something. So I asked her out, I felt terrible for telling her I didn't like her and the only way for her to start being herself was to make her happy. Eventually someone heard I was just dating her to make her happier in life and she dumped me." He explained.

"How long did you guys date?" I asked.

"About all of freshmen year." He answered.

"That's almost a year Harry! You played her for almost a year!" I yelled. Everybody in Starbuck's started glaring at us.

"Delany you've got to understand this from my point. If I didn't date her she would've of been crying everyday and she would of just locked herself in her dorm until the dean would have to expel her for ditching all of her classes. I saved her." He said.

"Harry, I get your point of it but it was very messed up of what you did to her." I told him.

"I know, I know. I feel terrible. She hates you because she still likes me and she just can't face the fact that I'm hanging out with another girl." Harry's eyes looked straight into mine.

"Harry! Venti java chip! Delany! Venti double chocolatey chip extra mocha!" The espresso boy called from behind the counter.

"I'll get them." Harry said as I was about to stand up.
