Lily's POV

I grab Niall's hoodie from the end of the bed and slip it on me. I get under the covers, trying to fall asleep. The door opens and I don't dare to turn around, thinking it would be one of my parents or a doctor. The person didn’t say anything and I heard the door click again, so I assumed that he left. I felt part of my bed sink in. I turned around, and immediately smiled. I sat up, hugging Niall. "Hey, Niall."

He squeezed me before letting go. "How're you feeling?"

I shrugged. "A bit better. I'm sorry I didn't answer your calls or anything."

He pulled me into his arms, and kissed my head. "Don't be sorry, I understand. At least your alright now. That's what matters."

We sat on the bed for the next few minutes not saying anything. I looked on the floor and fiddled my fingers with the hoodie strings.

"I like your hoodie," Niall smirked in my ears. I smiled and looked at him. "Yeah, I know you do. Don't expect it back."

"It looks better on you anyways."

The door opened and my parents walked in and sat on the chairs. "Hi Niall, it's good to see you again." my dad shook his hand.

"It's good to see you, too."

"Did the doctor come in yet?" my mom asked me nervously. I shook my head. "Why?"

"He called us telling us we need to talk. It's important."

My heart started beating fast. What's so important? I closed my eyes, so that the tears won't come out. I didn't want to start crying in front of my parents and Niall. I'm already worrying them too much.  I didn't want to worry them more, especially Niall. He's ditching is work for me. Niall sensed something was wrong with me; he rubbed my back, holding me closer to him. "It's going to be alright, Lily. Everything's going to be fine."  I hugged him, nodding my head against his chest. I had to believe him, or let him know that I believe him, even if I'm lying to him. All four of us stayed quiet in the room until the doctor came in ten minutes later.

"Good afternoon." The doctor opened and closed the door behind him. He walked over to the counter and grabbed the chair. He sat on it, quickly filling in files. "How are you feeling, Lily?" he asked me.

"A bit better." It was the truth; I was feeling better, much better than before.

"That's good, that's good."

"What's so important?" my mom asked him. She held on to my dad's hand, praying it wasn't anything bad.

The doctor put the pen in his mouth and sighed. He took it out and dropped it on top of the files and paperwork.

"Well," he began as I squeezed onto Niall's hand, "after reviewing some of her tests, we'll need to perform surgery on Lily."

The room was quiet again. Surgery? What kind of surgery?

"Surgery?" I asked him. "Like, since I have brain cancer, it'll be like brain surgery?"

He nodded. Niall's grip around me tightened. I was scared, I couldn’t hold the tears any longer; I let them out.

"Could this make her cancer-free?" my dad choked out. We all looked at the doctor, hoping he'll tell us the answer that we wanted.

He sighed, "Hopefully, but we're not a 100% sure yet."

The doctor walked out, followed by my parents. They stood outside the door, talking about something. I could see my dad getting nervous and angry at the same time.

"I'm scared, Niall."

He didn't answer me. He held on to me and rubbed my back. I looked up at him, and his eyes were red. He wiped his eyes and tried to smile. "It's going to be okay, Lily. You're too strong. I love you, you know that?"

I nodded and wrapped my arms around him. "I love you, too."

Through the window I could see the doctor walking away. My dad hugged my mom while wiping eyes, saying something to her. I swallowed hard.

"Niall?" I looked up at him. "What do you think the doctor was telling them?"

He shook his head. "I don't know."

"What if the surgery doesn't go as planned, and something happens, and I don’t make it?"

Instead of responding, he put both of his hands on my the sides of my face and leaned in. He kissed me passionately, and I could feel the tears falling off his face. He pulled away, his face inches away from mine. I look in his eyes. He was scared too; he was scared that he was going to loose me. I thought about what would happen if I died. My parents wouldn’t have any children, they wouldn’t see me get married, or have any children. Stacey wouldn't be happy either. And Niall. He would probably quit his job, and isolate himself. He'll be broken. He would do that, I could imagine him doing that. Not that I want him to. I don't want him to do that. Niall leaned in and kissed me again.

"Don't think that okay? I don't want you to ever think that. Nothing's going to happen," he mumbled against my lips. I quickly kissed him again before hugging him, not ever wanting to let go.

My mom opened the door and walked in, her eyes all red from crying. I got out of Niall's arms and ran into hers. "What happened?" I asked her, wanting her to tell me what happened. Unfortunately, parents don't tell you everything.

"Nothing, baby, nothing. We'll be fine. It's okay." She patted my back.

"What did the doctor say?"

She looked at me, wiping the tears of my face. She shook her head, "Nothing that you need to know. We'll be fine, okay?"

"Where's Daddy?"

"He went to get some fresh air, he's fine. Don't worry about him."

Niall stood up. "I'll be right back, okay?" I nodded. He closed the door behind him. My mom walked me to the bed, and we lied there, in silence, with my mom humming the songs she used to sing to me as a baby.

Niall's POV

I closed the door behind me and looked to find Mr. Adam. I went to the front desk.

"Excuse me, do you know where Adam Hunter went?"

She looked up, her face immediately changing. "I know who you are! You're Niall Horan! So the rumors are true, you are here!"

I clenched my fingers. "Do you know where Adam Hunter went!?"

"Yeah, um, he went to walk in the garden. It's that way." She pointed to an exit.

I walked out the exit, looking for him. He was sitting on a bench, his elbows on his legs, and his face in his hands. He leaned back, looking at the kids playing on the playground, smiling to himself. I walked towards him. He forced a smile when he saw me. He scooted over, giving me some room to sit down next to him.

He sighed. "Thank you, Niall."

I gave him a weird look. He continued, "You make her smile, you know. Sometimes, I catch her on her laptop, watching you on YouTube, singing, interviews, and the videos the fans make. She loves you."

I smiled. "I love her, too."

He chuckled and patted my back. "I know, Niall. I'm happy, you know? I've always trusted you. You're going to take good care of my girl. She'll be yours soon. I already give you my permission."

I smiled even bigger. "That means a lot, Mr. Adam."

"What are you doing calling me Mr. Adam? Just call me Adam!"

I laugh, "Alright, Adam."

"What did the doctor say?" I asked him as soon as I stopped laughing. Adam sighed. "Well, he talked to us about the surgery. He said it could do her good, or it won't do her any good at all."

"Don't tell Lily what I'm telling you, okay?"

I nod. "Promise."

"And he gave us more information about the surgery, that if we want to do it, it'll be in a few days, maybe on Saturday. And he gave us the amount, and," he shook his head, looking at the ground.

"I can help," I blurted out.

"Huh?" he looked up.

"I can help with the payment."

"No Niall, we'll be fine. We can figure something out. You don't have to do anything. You're presence is good enough for Lily."

"No, Mr.- I mean Adam, I can help with the payment if you need any help. I'm willing to help."

He gave a small smile. "I'll keep you updated." I nodded in return, but I knew he wasn't going to tell me if they needed help. I excused myself and walked back to Lily's room. Through the window, I saw her and Mrs. Emma sleeping on the bed. I walked passed the room, roaming through the hospital halls. They were a bit empty. I walked through the children's area. A girl in her hospital gown, who was around four, walked up to me.

"Are you Lily's boyfriend?" she asked me. I squat down, so that I was at her height. I nodded. "Yeah, I am. How do you know that?"

"I talk to Lily every day and we watch you on her computer. You're funny. And I like your songs. My favorite is 'One Thing.'" She smiled.

I smiled and she continued, "Is she okay? I haven't talked to her in a few days."

I shrugged. "She's doing better. She's sleeping right now."

"That's good."

"What's your name?" I asked her.

"Annabelle. But people call me Belle, like the princess."

"You sure are a princess. Come on, let's go sit down." I guide her over to the chairs.  She climbed in the chair next to me. "Do you have cancer, too?" I asked her.

Belle nodded. "Yeah, I do. But the doctors say I'm getting better."

"That's good."

"Lily told me that one day she was going to take me to your concert."

I laugh, "Really?"

She nodded excitedly. "I can't wait, Lily said it's really fun."

"It is really fun."

"I have a poster of you on the wall. I like Liam a lot too," she smiled, her dimples showing.

"Really? Can I see? I might be able to sign them."

She jumps off the chair and holds out her hand. I take it and she leads me to her room. She opens the door and walks over to the opposite wall.

"See?" she points to me. "That's you, and that's Liam, and Harry, and Louis, and Zayn!" she pointed to the rest.

"Did Lily give you that poster?" I take a Sharpie from the desk and sign my name next to me. She nods. "She's the only nice one at the hospital. Everyone else is a little mean."

She nods.

"You're an adorable girl, you know? And one of the nicest girls I've ever met."

She blushes and giggles. I follow her to her bed and sat on the edge. I open my arms, and her face brightens up she sits next to me. I take out my phone and take a selfie of us.

"Do you have Temple Run?"

I smile. "Yeah, of course I do! It's my favorite game. Want to play?"

She nods and I hand her over my phone.

As soon as Belle fell asleep, I tucked her in bed and silently walked out of her room. I walked back to Lily's room and sat on the chair next to the door. I went on Twitter reading the tweets.

'Apparently Lily needs surgery? #prayforlily'

'let's raise money for lily and her surgery #prayforlily'

I smiled scrolling down and reading the tweets. How did they know about the surgery though? My stomach grumbled, telling me I needed to eat. I checked the time: 8:40. I walked outside in the dark night, walking to the closest restaurant. I walked in and ordered a to go hamburger.

"Thank you." I paid the lady and walked out.

"Niall!" I turn around and two girls walked up to me.

"Oh, hi." I faked a smile.

"How's Lily doing?"

I shrugged. "She's doing better. Thank you for asking."

"Does she really need surgery?"

I nodded.

"Here, we made this for her. It's a get well goody bag." One fan handed me a bag.

"Thanks. I'll give it to her as soon as she wakes up."

"Before you go, can we get a picture, if you don't mind? You don't have to."

I smiled. "Of course, it's fine with me!"

We took the picture, and they walked away. I held both bags in my hands and walked inside. I started eating my fries, one by one. I walked in the elevator, and opened the bag, peeking inside. There was a notebook, covered in pictures of her and I, a teddy bear, candy, and other small things. The elevator 'dinged' and I walked back to the chair, eating the burger.

Lily's POV

I woke up and smelled bacon in the room. I sat up, looking at the counter. I kicked the sheets off and started eating it. The door opened and Niall walked in holding a bag laughing. "Brielle told me there was bacon, of course you dive in."

"None for you. I take the plate and sit on my bed."

"You never share bacon, so why ask now?"

I smirked, drinking the milk. Niall hands me over a pink bag with my name on it. "What's this?" I asked him after I swallowed.

"I bumped into to girls next to me last night when I went to go get dinner. They told me it was for you." I take the bag from him and looked inside. "Aww, they're so sweet!"

He nodded and excused himself to go to the bathroom. I opened the notebook in the bag and saw their twitter names. I grab my phone, taking a picture of the bag, and tweeted and followed the two girls, "thank you girls so much!! Made my morningg! :)))"

I read the letter, letting me know that they're praying for me and all those postitive stuff. Niall came out of the restroom, and read the letter with me.

"You have amazing fans, Niall." I snuggled up next to him.

He kissed my head. "I know."

Saturday morning, I woke up with a room full of nurses. Crap, it's surgery day. My heart started beating quickly; I felt it was going to explode. My mom and dad walked up to me, my mom holding my hand. "It's going to be okay baby. It's going to be okay."

Brielle handed me over some medicine, and I took it, ignoring the bitter taste.

"Where's Niall?"

"He's not aloud in here at the moment. You'll see him before. He's outside waiting for you." She gave a small smile, and squeezed my hand. The nurses told me to move to another bed, which they brought in. I got up and climbed into the bed. My legs were shaking. My mom and dad hugged me tight. They stayed with me the whole way to the surgery doors. "Where's Niall?" I asked, about to fall asleep. No sooner as I said that, Niall runs up to me and hugs me. "You'll be fine okay?" I nod. He holds my arms and looks at me in the eye. "I love you, Lily." I smile. "I love you too , Niall." He quickly kisses me and squeezes my hands. "For good luck," he says and stands back. I hug both my parents one more time. Two doctors walk out. "It's time," one of them say. My dad put his arm around my mom, rubbing her arm. I glance back at the three people I love most in the world before the doctor closes the door behind us.
