Niall's POV

The three of us waited in the waiting room, impatiently. I sat across the room from Mrs. Emma and Adam. My right leg was jittery; it won't stop jumping. I leaned my shoulders on my kneed and covered my face with my hands. My phone kept on vibrating in my back pocket, but I wasn't in the mood to talk to anyone, not even my own mother. I looked at the clock hanging on the wall; nothing. It's been only ten minutes. How am I supposed to do this for a few hours? I stood up and walked around, not looking up. My phone vibrated for the millionth time. I gave up and snatched it out of my pocket. The boys have been endlessly texting and calling me. I decided to text them one simple thing before I turned it off.

'She's in surgery right now'

I found myself walking back to the children's area again. I smiled to myself, thinking about surprising Belle again. Well, it would take my mind off of Lily. I walked to her room and knocked on the door softly before opening it. Belle was sitting on the little table, coloring. She looked up, and instantly smiled. She pushed her chair back and ran to give me a hug.

"Hey, Belle." I hugged her back.

She took my hand and walked me to the table. She picked up the paper and handed it to me, smiling. I took it from her and looked at it.

"See, that's you and Lily." She pointed to the girl and the boy next to her. She continued, "You guys are on a picnic and here's a rabbit."

"What's the rabbit's name?"

She looked at me and shook her head. "Rabbits don't have names."

She nodded. "Only dogs and cats do. And my hamster. His name is George. But rabbits don't have names."

"I'm pretty sure I had a friend who had a rabbit. She named him Andrew."

"Andrew!" she laughed. "That's my brother's name. He's not a rabbit though."

I sat on the small chair, praying I wouldn't break it, and pulled her on my lap. "You have a brother?"

She nodded holding up seven fingers. "He's seven. And I have a sister Marissa. She's thirteen. She has you and the other boys all over her bedroom. She didn't believe me when I told her that you came and visited me." She giggled.

The door opened and a nurse walked in. "Good morning, Belle. Hi, you must be Niall! Brielle told me all about you."

"Yeah. Good morning..." I smiled at her, nodding.

"Sam. Short for Samantha." She turned her attention to Belle. "Have you taken your medication today?" Belle nodded. "That's good. You feeling alright?" Belle nodded again. Sam walked over to the counter and picked up Belle's breakfast tray before leaving.

"Where's Lily?" Belle continued coloring the sky in her drawing.

"She's in surgery right now."

Belle's eyes widened. "Is she okay?"

I shrugged. "Hopefully."

An hour later, Belle fell asleep on my shoulder. I carried her to bed and tucked her under the covers. I turned off the lights before closing the door behind me. I walked back to the waiting room, praying that the surgery was going well. Mrs. Emma was asleep in her husband's arms. She probably had no sleep the night before. I slowly walked up to him. "Is she doing okay?"

Adam smiled slightly. "The doctor updated us a few minutes ago. He said it's going good."

"That's good." I smiled and walked back to the chair across the room. I took out my phone and turned it on. I stared at the screen; time was going as slow it could go. How slow can time get? Slower than the slowest snail alive. I scrolled down my missed everything. Phone calls, texts, and emails. I called my mum, as she called me many times as well.

"Hello? Niall?"

"Hey, Mum."

"Why didn't you answer your phone? Is everything okay?"

"Yeah, I turned off my phone. I didn't feel like talking to anyone."

"How's it going?"

"The doctor said it was going good."

"Good? Just good?"

"That's what Adam told me." I bit my finger, trying not to worry to much. Everything will be okay, Niall. I reminded myself for the millionth time. Lily's too strong.

"Are you okay?"

I zoned out, quiet for a while.

"Niall? Are you okay? Is everything fine?"

I snapped back in reality. "Yeah, I'm fine."

"You sure? You don't sound fine."

"No, I'm positive I'm fine. Just worried."

"We're all worried, Niall. Lily will be fine. I know it." My mom reassured me. She excused herself, needing to go back to work, but made sure I kept my phone on and updated her every hour.

"Bye Mum, love you."

I rested my head on my hand and stared at the tile floor. My leg shook, unable to stop itself. I sighed, letting it go. I went on Twitter, to get my mind off of things. I read through the tweets, many of them were telling me that they're praying for Lily. The question I ask myself, how do they always find out? It's not like I told them anything about it.

'Niall look! It's trending world wide! #prayingforlily'

'#prayingforlily seriously, I ship them the most, they the cutest'

I smiled to myself, and quickly tweeted a simple 'thank you all for your prayers' before locking my phone and placing it back in my back pocket. I walked to the vending machine and bought a water bottle, hoping it would cool me down. I walked back to my seat and leaned on my elbow, reading the label on the bottle.

"No, Adam, leave him. He's asleep."

"Don't you think he'll get mad if we didn't wake him up? I would've."

"Adam." I heard Mrs. Emma warn him. I rubbed my eyes and slowly opened them, adjusting them to the bright light. I fell asleep?

"Are they done?" I stood up and immediately got to the subject. Adam chuckled. He nodded. "Yeah, the doctors said it went really well, we just have to wait."

I felt as if a rock has been lifted off my shoulders. "Can we see her?"

Mrs. Emma shook her head. "The doctors said not for another few hours. But anyway, she's sleeping right now."

"Do you want us to get you anything? We're going to get lunch."

"That'll be good, thank you."

"Ham sandwich is fine?"

I shrugged and nodded. To be honest, I wasn't in the mood for anything right now. I leaned back on my chair and texted my mum, telling her what I had just heard.

Three hours later, we were given the go to check on Lily. Stacey came buy to quickly check on her before she had to go to work. I followed Lily's parents to her room. Through the window, I could see her sleeping. There was as bandage around her head, and even from here she looked pale. Mrs. Emma opened the door and walked in. "You want to come in?"

I shook my head. "I'll wait here for a minute. I'll join you in a bit."

I leaned against the wall and sat down. I forced myself not to cry, reminding myself that the surgery went great. I just sat there, imagining myself, my life, without Lily. Nothing. She is my best friend. She is my girlfriend, now. She is my everything. Lily Hunter is my life.

I calmed down a bit, and slowly opened the door. Lily was still asleep. I walked over to her, and held her pale hand. It was cold. I examined her, she wasn't this pale. I didn't feel so good. I squeezed her hand before excusing myself, and ran out of the hospital.

Lily's POV

I turned over, ignoring my headache. I opened my eyes and looked around. I rubbed them, adjusting them to the light.

"Daddy?" I saw my parents fast asleep on the chairs against the wall. My dad bolted awake, smiling when he saw me. He stood up and walked over to me, grabbing a chair.

"How's my little girl doing?" He kissed my forehead lightly.

I shrugged. "My head hurts."

"How much?"

"Eh. It's okay. I can live with it."

"That's good."

"What time is it?"

"It's almost two in the afternoon. You've been asleep for quite a while. Almost three days."

My eyes widened. "Three days!"

He chuckled. "Yeah, three days."

"What did the doctor say?"

"HE said it went really well. They took a few tests on you while you were asleep, but everything is okay. You're doing well right?"

I nodded. I actually was feeling quite well, not including my headache.  My mom woke up, and brightened up when she saw me. She walked over and sat on the edge of the bed, holding my hand.

"I'm feeling okay, Mom." I smiled.

She squeezed my hand. "That's great, baby, that's great."

My dad went to go get the doctor.

"Where's Niall?"

My mom shrugged. "I don't know. We haven't seen him ever since after the surgery."

Two nurses walked in, followed by my dad, smiling, and unplugging the needles out of me. When the left, the doctor came to do a little check up on me. "How are you feeling?"
"I have a headache, but other than that I'm fine."
"That's good, that's good."

He did a quick test on me, and went to go get the results. I grabbed my phone and called Niall. He didn't answer, not once out of the many times I called him. I quickly texted him before the doctor walked in again a few hours later, smiling.

I ran all the way to the park, having a feeling he was going to be there. I slowed down went I arrived at the parking lot; my head was throbbing. No wonder the nurses tried to stop me. But no, I had to find Niall. I walked around, hoping to find him. My heart started to beat quickly. What if he's not here? Niall wasn't answering his phone, which was making it worse. A few feet away from the bridge I saw a figure which seemed like Niall's leaning against the bridge.
"Niall!" I ran straight towards him. I said his name again as I stood right next to him, "Niall." I put my hand on his back, shaking it a little. He didn't look up.

"Niall, it's me. Lily."

He finally looked up, and I could read his expression thorough and clearly. His eyes were sad and swollen, his face was down and depressed, and his hair was a big mess; he wasn't in the best mood ever.  he even looked a bit tipsy. I held his shoulders firm.

"Niall, what happened?"

He stared in my eyes, not saying a word. He wiped the newly fallen tears off my face with his thumb, his hands holding my face. "You're here, Lily, you're still alive. What are you doing away from the hospital? How's your head? But you're here." He smiled, still crying.

"Niall, what did you do? What's going on?" I whispered and let go of his arms.

Niall took his hands off my face and turned away. I grabbed him by the shoulders so that he faced me. "Niall! What did you do to yourself?"

He shrugged and hugged me tight, "I got drunk Lily. I got drunk earlier. And I didn't even know it. I'm scared, Lily! I'm scared that you were going to leave me. I thought you were going to die in there. You're expected to die, you know that! That's what Brielle told me! You're going to die! And how am I supposed to live without you? There's no way, Lily! And the past few days has been insane for me. I don't know what happened. One minute you were fine, the next you're dying! And that dream I had made it all worse. When you went in for surgery three days ago, I was scared, Lily, scared as hell. You think I want you to die? You're still young! You're the one I want to get married to someday, in a few years. I know you're going to be a successful woman later on, with beautiful kids. You have a perfect life ahead of you, Lily, and I don't want you to die," he grabbed my shoulders, looking at me. He was breaking into pieces, and I was the reason behind it all.

"Niall, I-"
"Don't say anything, Lily. Don't be sorry. You can't help yourself. As much as I want to help you, I can't! I just can't! If I got to choose, I would be the one with cancer, I would be the one dying. Who cares about One Direction, let the girls mourn over me if I die. I don't care! I just want you to live the life with me. I need you in my life, Lily, I need you."

"Niall! Listen to me for a minute, okay! Stop ranting about something useless-"

"It's not useless, Lily! You're dying! You're about to leave my world like that!" He snapped his fingers.

"Niall! Stop talking! Can you hear me out for a minute?"

He obeyed me and closed his mouth, the tears still falling. He raised his hands so that they were on each side of my face. I wiped his tears, before putting my own hands over his. I opened my own to speak, "Niall, as much as that rant means to me, you ranted on for nothing," I smiled, too excited I felt like bursting. "I'm cancer-free."

His facial expressions changed immediately. "What did you just say, I thought I heard you say you were cancer-free. Am I in a dream, Lily, tell me this is a dream. Please tell me this is a dream. What am I saying please tell me this isn't a dream!" He took his hands off my face and his fingers went through his hair. He turned around, and back at me.

I smiled even bigger, my heart beating faster. I could barely get the words out of my mouth. I was this excited. I grabbed his hands in mine and squeezed them. "Niall, I'm cancer-free."
