The Lost Kiss ~COMPLETE~

Niall and Lily have been best friends since they were in Kindergarten. Freshman homecoming came around, and Niall asked Lily if she would be his date but go as friends. They had an awesome time, and after, Niall and Lily went to take a walk at a park. Lily's family was moving to Texas later that week for her parent's work, and she wanted to tell Niall something before she left. After she tells him, she runs away from him embarrassed and scared on what he will say. What happens when Niall and Lily meet 3 years later?

23. Hearing the Worst and Finding the One

Brielle's POV

I opened the door and walked in. The bed was empty, but I could hear running water in the bathroom. I placed Lily's dinner down on the table and looked at the picture beside her bed. It was a recent picture of her and Niall, the one of their sleepover they had before he left. Before she got diagnosed. I put it down and sat down on a chair, waiting for her to finish. She walked out in a t-shirt and Nike's, fixing the blue bandana on her head. Lily couldn't stand seeing herself bald, so that’s her solution instead of getting a wig, to wear a bandana.

"Hey Brielle!"

I smiled. "Hey Lily!" Lily sat on her bed and started eating her food. "This is better than yesterday, I swear this food here is disgusting."

I laughed. "I know Lily. Hey, I'll bring you something else tomorrow." She did her mini dance and got serious.

"Sooooo. Tell me, Brielle. How're you and Brandon?" she smirked. I looked at her, trying not to smile. "Eh, Brandon? Yeah, he's a good boy. Eh."

"Tell me.." she anxiously waited for some news.

"Well, yeah, we're.."

"Official! Oh my god Brielle!" She jumped off the bed and hugged me. "So like in a few years from now y'all are gonna get married, and.."

"Woah there Lily." I smiled. "You're going a little to fast here."

She shrugged and lied on her bed. "Well, I mean, y'all are gonna get married."

"What about you and Niall?"

She got up and leaned against her elbows on the bed. Her eyes landed on the picture of them on the table. She sighed and shrugged. "I don't know Brielle." She paused then smiled. "But I hope so. That would be wonderful." she hugged her legs to her chest and rocked herself back and forth.

"You love him don't you?"

She nodded excitedly. "Yeah. I do. But it hurts that like, I'm hurting him and well yeah. Did I tell you? He actually came to Houston. I had to lie to him another time. I think he probably left by now. He came and my dad answered the door. They talked for a bit and Niall asked where I was. My dad said I was busy with school work and school projects that I didn't have time to see him. I mean, I don't know what kind of excuse he made up, but he did. Brielle, what am I going to do? I can't just hurt him again. But he still came! I-I don't know." she shrugged and buried her face in the pillow.

"When was this?" I shifted in the chair.

She looked up. "What?"

"When did he come?"

"This morning." she stuttered and started to cry. I sat next to her and hugged her. "Everything is going to be okay Lily. Trust me."

She nodded and wiped the tears off her face. "Yeah, hopefully."

The door opened and the doctor stood there, with an expression that I never wanted to see.

"Brielle, I'd like to talk to you for a second."

I nodded. "Lily, I'm going to go after. See you tomorrow?"

She nodded. "Bye Brielle!"

I walked out and closed the door behind me.

The doctor looked at me with a worried look on his face. "The test results came in from a few days ago." I nodded, and felt a rock in my throat. This wasn't going to be good news. He opened his mouth to speak. "It looks like the cancer is too serious."

"What do you mean? Can't you do anything about it?"

He shook his head. "She's not going to make it." he looked down at his clipboard.

"Does her parents know?"

He shook his head. "No, only I and a few other doctors know. I guess since you’re the closest to the family you could tell them?"

I felt myself crying. I nodded. "Okay, I will. How long though?"

He looked up. "A few weeks."

"Thank you." I whispered and walked away. I grabbed my purse from my desk and ran out of the hospital, wanting to get alone time. Lily's too innocent to die! She can't die!

I parked the car in the parking lot and shut the door. I walked towards the bridge of the lake, and leaned against the edge. I looked at my reflection through the water. How was I supposed to tell Lily? I heard some commotion behind me, and I looked to my left and saw a young boy a few feet away from me. His elbows were on the bridge and his head was in his hands. The hood of his hoodie fell of his head. He was messing up his hair with his hands. His hand reached for his hoodie and pulled it back on his head. I looked back at the water, trying to make it not obvious that I was staring at him. A few feet away from my reflection I could see the moon reflected.  My phone started ringing.

"Hey Brielle!" Brandon said on the other line of the phone.

I smiled. "Hey Brandon."

"I know it's kind of last minute, but do you want to go out for dinner?"

"Oh, sorry. I can't. I'm busy tonight. But thanks for asking Brandon."

"Oh, it's okay! How about tomorrow?"

"Tomorrows great!"

"Bye! Talk to you later!"

"Bye Brandon."

I hung up and put my phone in my purse.

"You're busy tonight?" the boy asked me. I couldn't see who it was, as it was getting darker by the second.

I shook my head. "No, I just need time to think about stuff."

"So you came here?"

I nodded and shrugged. "Yeah. What about you?"

"Just came to think to."

I turned and sat down, with my back against the bridge. He did the same as me.

"So what's your problem?" I asked him.

"So this is some kind of therapy?" he laughed.

I smiled. "Well, yeah, I guess. We need to talk about our problems, I guess it helps, right?"

He nodded. "Yeah, I guess." We stayed quiet for a few seconds.

"So, what are you thinking about?" he asked me. I hesitated before telling him, but something told me to tell him.

"Well, I'm a nurse at the hospital not far from here, and…"

"You're a nurse! How old are you?"

"Yeah, I'm 26. I just finished medical school."

"Oh. You look much younger."

I shrugged. "I get that a lot." I sighed and continued. "So anyways, there's this girl that I'm helping out at the hospital. We've gotten really close since. She has cancer, and she's just been diagnosed, only a few weeks ago. Brain cancer. The cancer came all of a sudden, no one that she knew, not her family or friends, expected it. She's been taking it really hard. She tries to get use to the fact that she has cancer, but she reacts to it worse everyday.  Right before I left today, just a few minutes ago actually, the doctor told me she might not make it through, only a few weeks left. I-, I don't know how to tell her or her family, but the doctor said I should try to tell her, if not, he's going to."

I looked at him. "So that's about it."

He looked down at the floor and looked up. "Poor girl."

I nodded. "Yeah, and she's not telling me her boyfriend about any of this, or, I don't really know what's been going on between the two of them. He doesn't have a clue about this, not even the slightest clue. As much as she wants to tell him, she doesn't."

His eyes got wide and looked at me.

"What's her name?"

I gave him a weird look.

"Why do you want to know her name?"

He jumped up and put his head in his hands. I got up too and gave him a questioning look.

"What's wrong?"

"What's her name?!" he started to freak out. He turned to me and I could see worry in his eyes.

"Lily." I blurted out.

"What?!" he looked at me and he looked like he was about to cry. "Lily who!?"

"Lily. Lily Allen."

He was now crying his eyes out. "Where is she? Which hospital? What room? Why didn't she tell me?"

"I’m sorry but she doesn't really like to see visitors. She told me not to tell anyone, but I guess..."
"I need to see her!"

I opened my mouth to say something, but he stopped me.

"I'm Niall! Niall Horan!"
