Chapter 41: L’amour

‘What the hell, Ali!? You were going to Paris and you never told me!’ Jack half-yelled over the phone.

‘I did try but you never answered your phone.’ I sighed defeatedly.

‘I never got any calls.’ He murmured unconvincingly.

‘I’ve been trying to get hold of you for weeks and you’ve never picked up once.’ I reasoned with a groan.

‘I’ve been... busy.’ He sighed.

‘Jack, what is going on? You’ve hardly spoken to me for about a month and we used to be so close. What happened?’ I asked him, pacing around in my room.

‘Iaccidentallykilledsomeone.’ He said so fast that I never caught anything.

‘What?’ I asked again.

‘I accidentally killed someone.’ He said slower and lowly. My eyes widened and I almost dropped my phone.

‘What!?’ I practically shouted.

‘I didn’t mean to, okay? It just happened.’ I can hear him crying over the phone. I sat down on my bed as I took in the news.

‘How, Jack?’ I asked him quietly.

‘Me and my mates were on the roof, just goofing off and there was someone else there. He was on the edge and we were close to him. Then I tripped over something and i tripped into him... and he just... fell.’ He sobbed as he recounted the story.

‘Oh my god, were you drunk?’ I asked.

‘No, I wasn’t. That’s what’s scaring me the most.’ He said quietly and i barely heard him.

‘Jack, you’ve got to tell someone this. Have you told mum and dad?’

‘No, I haven’t and i don’t want to.’

‘Why not? I think you should.’

‘I can’t, Ali! They’re going to automatically assume I’m a murderer when I’m not.’

‘Just.. tell mum and dad. Tell them the whole thing. Tell them exactly how it went then you call me, okay?’

‘Okay, fine. Bye, Ali. Come back home sometime, I miss you Alikins.’

‘Don’t call me that. I miss you too, Jackyboo.’

‘Don’t call me that either.’

‘Okay, whatever. Bye, Jack. I love you.’

‘I love you too.’

I hung up on the phone and drop down on my bed. I was still trying to wrap my head around what Jack did. My big brother, an angel, the best influence in my life, the one that raised me killed someone. I can’t believe this is happening. How did this even happen? I just hope he does the right thing. A knock on my door made me snap my head up.

‘Ali, we’re going for a walk around Paris. Wanna come?’ Jenna’s voice came from the other side of the door.

‘Yeah, sure. Hang on a second.’ I answered.

I looked around my room for something to cover up my bare arms. For the whole three hours I’ve been in my room, it’s already a mess. Jenna and I got a small house, just outside of the heart of Paris. So we’re still in the city but we’re far from traffic and stuff. I managed to pull apart a few suitcases and unpack things to make my room more of a... room.

I looked at myself in the mirror, slipping on my brown, fur-interior coat over my pink lace singlet top. I rubbed my hands over my white skinnies then bent down to readjust my brown sandals. When I finished looking at my outfit, I slipped my phone into my pocket and walked out to meet the rest of my gang.

The house had two rooms; one for me and one for Jenna and there was also a guest bedroom. It wasn’t really crowded and it wasn’t small either. It was quite spacious and it was ridiculously good for a house that came with the job. The kitchen was pretty big and the lounge was bigger than any other room. The company already had the furniture in the house, we just had to doll it up and make it look like our own.

‘I’m ready. Let’s go.’ I say to them and we walked out of the house.

We roamed around the city of love. The three of us trailing behind the loved up couple who kept pointing to places where they should have a date or something. Georgia and Elise kept talking about where they should meet up with the boys. And all I did was walk around, enjoying being in Paris.

‘Oooh, let’s go there! It looks so good.’ I pointed to a small café called L’amour. It was the kind of café where you feel welcome and warm inside. They nodded happily and I made my way towards it with them a few metres behind.

I made it to the front and was about to walk in when someone else walked out and we ended up bumping right into each other.

‘First day in Paris turns out to be bumping into people.’ I grumbled under my breath but looked up to say sorry to the person.

‘I’m sorry.’ The girl said and she has a British accent. She was really pretty, she had brown hair and had warm brown eyes. She looked slightly familiar.

‘It’s okay. I’m sorry too.’ I smiled at her politely. ‘Thank god, you’re not French. It would have made everything 10 times more awkward.’ I laughed lightly.

‘I was thinking the exact same thing.’ She laughed along with me.

‘You look really familiar.’ She said suddenly and my eyebrows shot up in surprise. She stared intently at me, probably trying to figure it out.

‘I thought the same thing. Have you ever been to Australia before?’ I asked her, maybe she dropped by Australia and I bumped into her there as well.

‘No, I’ve never been. Have you been to London?’ She asked me and I shook me head, no.

‘Hey babe, I thought you were supposed to meet me at the car.’ A new voice that was really familiar came up behind her and I averted my attention to him. He took a step back when he saw me.

My eyes widened in shock when I saw him. And all I could think of was: shit, shit, shit. Now, I know why the girl in front of me looked so familiar. I saw her on TV, holding hand with Louis Tomlinson who happens to be person standing behind the lovely lady in front of me. I turned back to her and I saw that she had recognised me as well.

‘Now, i know you! You were all over the news, you’re from Australia, right? Your name is... Ali? Alira? Am I right?’ She smiled happily as she finally realised who I was.

‘Yeah, I’m Alira. And you’re from the news as well. Eleanor?’ I smiled at her. Louis’ eyes widened in shock as he looked between the two of us, unable to form words.

‘Yeah, I am!’ She grinned.

‘Ali, I thought you went in- Holy shit.’ Jenna stopped short when she caught sight of the two people in front of me.

I turned to face my friends to find that Jenna’s eyes were wide in shock, Jake was glaring at Louis and Georgia and Elise were fidgeting nervously. I groaned inside but turned back to Eleanor to find confusion all over her face and Louis with shock and nervousness all over his.

‘It was nice meeting you, Eleanor but me and my friends have got to go.’ I smiled at her.

‘It was nice meeting you too. We should hang out some time. Here’s my number.’ She wrote down her number on a piece of paper and handed it to me. ‘I’ll only be in Paris for a couple more days so I hope we can meet up before I leave.’ She continued.

I nodded my head and smiled at her before walking past her and looking at Louis. I don’t know what kind of expression there was on my face but I was hoping it wasn’t anything scary. I’m not a vengeful type of girl. He looked back at me, shocked and nervous. He obviously didn’t know what to do. I smiled at him, tentatively, and continued walking into the café, the others following closely behind.

‘Come on, Lou.’ Eleanor called and I looked over my shoulder to see him pull her away briskly. I took a seat down at one of the tables and they all sat down before me.

‘I honestly thought we were never going to see them again.’ Jenna said thoughtfully.

‘I was literally about to punch the kid in the face.’ Jake grunted with his hand clenched into a fist.

‘That was quite eventful.’ I commented, trying to lighten up the mood.

‘Are you thinking of hanging out with Eleanor?’ Elise asked me curiously. I pursed my lips thoughtfully.

‘Yeah, I am.’ I decided.

‘Really? Why?’ Jenna asked, shocked.

‘She seems really nice. Plus, I’d feel bad if I didn’t.’ I shrugged my shoulders.

‘So, meeting up with her has nothing to do with Louis?’ Georgia asked hesitantly.

‘Nothing. She’s just a genuinely nice person.’ I shrugged my shoulders.

‘He’s still dickhead and I’m still going to kill him.’ Jake said nonchalantly and we all started laughing at him.

Well, ain’t that a total awkward moment. ;)
