Dance With The Dead

16 year old Becca is new too Headsford Falls.
She moved for private reasons, but everyone is keen to find out her reason.
That's when 18 year old Harvey lets slip of something he proberly shouldn't have...

5. Chapter 5

It was Becca's second day in Headsford Falls.  A bitter wind greeted Becca as she opened the front door.

There stood Harvey, his hair blowing all over the place, and his eyes set on Becca.

"So, Becca, would you like me to show you round Headsford?"

His voice was cool, and calm.

Even though she'd explained to him that she was grounded, he'd do anything to get her out of the house.

"Sure, let me just grab my coat".

She leant around the door, and grabbed her buttoned down coat.

It was a dark crimson, and it matched nearly -nearly- every outfit she owned.

She shut the door behind her, and Harvey began walking.

"So, what do you wanna see first?"

Becca couldn't really answer, as she didn't really know what was actually in the town.

"Ah, right, your new?"

Becca laughed sweetly, and she nodded.

She'd taken the bandage off her head, and now she felt much better.

Her head still ached a tiny bit, but everything was okay, and she had a good memory.

"How about I show you the High School? It's the middle of the week, so everyone will be in and out, but that's alright with you, right?"

She nodded again.

I'll go anywhere...

Then she stopped her thoughts in their tracks.

Harvey could hear her.

"Yes, I can"

"Harvey, stop that!"

"Sorry, it's really hard to not listen in on you! If you had a power, surely you'd wanna use it, right?"

Becca had to admitt it.

If you had such a power, you'd wanna try it out, wouldn't you?

"How many people's minds can you read at once?"

"Well, 3, I guess. It's pretty hard to find out which minds thinking what, but you figure it out after a minute"

"Wow, thats pretty interesting!"

"Yeah, I guess"

"How long have you been able to do it for?"

Becca looked at him for a moment, but his face was blank, and it didn't look like he was going to reply.

"Sorry, if that, um, offends you" Becca appoligised.

Harvey smiled, and changed the subject.

"The schools about 10 or 11 blocks from your house. Roughly, that'd take you about 20 minutes to get to school. Leave early, and you'll avoid being late" he explained, and Becca nodded.

"What time do you have to be at school?"

"Well, your mom should book you a test day, so you can see what the schools like, and how everyone is, and what extra curriculars you can do. The schools pretty good though, let me tell you"

"Wait, I have one more question. How old do you have to be too leave?"

"18 or so. After that, you can go to Collage, or Uni, or what ever".

Becca took time to let it all sink in.

2 years of High school, and Collage after.

"Okay, uh, thanks" she replied, and turned th 5th corner.

The High School was bigger then Becca expected.

It was tall, and it had a huge banister draped over the front.

"The Headsford Hawks?"

"Yes. It's our logo thing. You know, people have Beavers and Eagals...-"

"Yeah, I know. My school had a Bear. Weird, right?"

"Not really, bears are cool"

"I guess..."

"Don't guess, they are!"

"Oh Harvey, your the weridest 18 year old I've met so far"

"OMG, thanks!"

"And that proves it".

Harvey laughed cooly.

It was a little deep, but it really suited him.

At least his doesn't sound like a pig!

She shook the thought out of her head, but not quick enough.

"Like a pig?"

"Alright, alright!"

"I want to go back now, I'm actually really tired"

"Stop lying, lier"

"Shut up!"

"Uh, you kill my patience, Becca"

"You too!"

"No, I make you feel complete, admitt it!"

"Harvey, your such a jerk" she laughed, a nudged him.

"Well thanks very much, Becca trekker"

"Hey, I don't trekk, I explore, you weirdo"

"Shut up!"

They both collasped on the floor in a laughing heap.
