Kill Me Silently (Completed)

Detective Chealsea Keller has been given a special case. A string of murders have happened and the only witness is a girl... The only problem is, that girl is mute.

2. What the Heck???

I raised my eyebrows in disbelief, but his eyes misted for a moment as if to check if everything added up in his mind, which it obviously didn't because he said,"I didn't get one darn clue out of that, other than the only witness which gave in a written statement, and was also caught on some security cameras."

I immediately glanced down at the security camera shots, they were bleary and unclear but they showed a girl in her mid-teens with long light hair and light eyes, looking like the all round cliche prep cheerleader. Except the fact that she was mute. The also file said that she was here visiting her grandparents for a year, she only started being mute one month before the murders. Interesting. But the strangest thing was that, when she was caught on tape anywhere where the murders happened she would have a button -like hair accessory adorning her long blonde locks, places where murders didn't happen she had her hair in a plain plait swinging down to the small of her back. Was this a sign? Telling us when the murders would happen?...

"Keller? Detective Keller?" I looked up startled, as my mind was still buried in thoughts surrounding the strange mute girl,"You've been staring at those papers for around five minutes now, got anything?"

"Actually yes," I replied smoothly,"You see, in the shots where a murder was happening she's wearing a button hair accessory in her hair but when there isn't a murder that day, her hair is plaited, see?" I pointed at the pictures... How did he not notice that? It was a small but noticeable fact... When I said this his mouth pressed into a grim line, eyes narrowed to slits and forehead creased. Concentration?

"Oh, I see... Well you picked that up fast... I wonder what you can do in more time, i'm leaving this case to you Keller, see if you can catch the culprit since I didn't even notice that... Must be age catching up to me," He rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly while his eyes darted around the room. Something's going on...

"What's up Chief? You seem tense and nervous, all the signs of nerves are showing and you don't seem relaxed at all," I summed up my observation, eager to hear his reply.

But all he did was grunt and roll his eyes lazily,"Don't worry about me Keller, all i'm nervous about is the next victims, the facts must have brought back some memories, must go now... Duty calls,"He produced a small handkerchief and wiped his brow, turning around to leave but pausing and taking out a small figure from his briefcase,"... Oh and Keller, here's a good look charm for the case." He placed a small statue of a seal onto my desk, a dark blue animal with a sloping back and glistening eyes.

"Thanks Chief, bet it'll bring all the luck i'll need," he chuckled and waved goodbye as he exited the room. Now all I have to do is solve this case. Easier said than done. Obviously.
