31. Work

The next morning, I woke up with Noah by my side, realizing that I hadn't had any bad dreams. I smiled and got out of bed slowly. Noah stayed fast asleep as I snuck into the kitchen to start making a pot of coffee. I rubbed my eyes and yawned tiredly as I listened to the coffee pot grumble. With my hands on my hips, I stared into space without a thought in my head. Then a pair of long masculine arms slipped around my waist, making me jump. Noah held on to me as my legs flopped into jello and nibbled at my neck. I put my small hands on his when he brought me back up to my feet. "You smell good." he mumbled.

"Maybe it's the coffee." I said, letting my head fall onto his shoulder.

"No, its you. I love your smell." He said, sighing and tightening his grip around me. We stood like that until the coffee was finished. I took out the cream and sugar and two mugs. I still knew my way around his house as if I had never left. Luckily, he hadn't changed anything.

"I have to be at work at 12." I yawned mid-sentence and took a sip from my steaming mug. Noah groaned grumpily and rested his hand on my thigh.

"Why can't you stay here with me?" he whined. I rolled my eyes playfully and grinned at him, patting his hand.

I worked two jobs. One as an assistant for a designer named Heather Moblin. I took care of each and every one of her needs for 4 hours a day, four days a week. My second job was required on weekends only as a sales clerk at Macy's. I'm sure my boss at Macy's will be furious since I didn't show up both days this weekend.

I used to keep some of my things in Noah's place when we were together, and luckily he hadn't even touched them. I found a decent outfit, black skinny jeans and a minty green blouse. I let my hair loose with my bangs in my face. I smiled in the mirror and caught Noah staring at me. "What?" I questioned, while putting my earrings on. He shook his head and chuckled lightly. "What?" I repeated, with my hands now placed on my hips.

"You look beautiful." He took my hands and kissed my cheek. I blushed and glanced down at the scar on his forearm. One late night while we were fighting, he had gripped my wrist and shoved me against the wall. I remember the pain that had soared through my head for days. I had taken a picture frame from the shelf next to me and threw it furiously in his face. The glass cracked on his head and shattered all over us. He had gotten an ugly cut from the frame on his arm, but I wasn't hurt too badly. Looking at the frightening scar sent chills through my legs. He smiled at me with a flicker of confusion in his eyes. To prevent him from asking any questions, I kissed him quickly and pulled him towards the door.

Noah kindly drove me to work, without forgetting to give me a passionate goodbye kiss. I walked over to Heather's office with a tint of red on my cheeks.

Heather was a middle aged woman, with naturally gorgeous red locks and really dark blue eyes. She was very pretty, almost like a role model to me. She was very nice and calm, but loud and defensive when she needed to be. And she was never afraid to confront someone. She was engaged to a lawyer named Rick Wilson and she talked about him 24/7,  but I was never usually bothered.

Her eyes widened and she almost choked on her granola bar. I smiled at her and furrowed my eyebrows at her crazed expression. "Amber!!!!!!" She stood up and rushed over to my tiny desk with her arms opened wide. "You were on tv!"

"What? That's not possible." I assured her, barely believing it. She nodded and took my arm, then dragged me into her office. She turned on one of those gossip channels and sat on her desk with her legs crossed.

"Yes! It's still on!" I gasped at the sight of my face on the screen. She hit my shoulder playfully and snorted. "I told you!" It was Zayn and I on the balcony of the hotel. I bit my lower lip hard with my orbs glued to the television.

"Zayn Malik's new girl? The two were seen out on the balcony of One Direction's Tampa hotel suite. Insiders say that there was a heated argument going on between them just yesterday. We don't know this mystery girl's name, and we haven't seen her since. New power couple? Or are these two up for splitsville already?!? For more info-" My mind wandered crazily as the woman continued speaking. I blinked and swallowed the lump in my throat. Heather looked at me and put her hand on mine.

"Honey, are you okay?" and flipped her hair to the side and pursed her lips when I looked up at her. "Why didn't you tell me you were dating a superstar?" She asked, cracking a smile. I shook my head and scratched my head awkwardly as I looked at her freshly painted toenails.

"I, um... I'm gonna get back to work. I'll get you your coffee." I walked out and over to the kitchen with my fists clenched and my head bowed.

I was humiliated.
