32. Take Me With You

ZAYN'S POV: Amber never came back for her things. I kept trying to convince myself that she'd come back eventually, and I didn't know if I should go out to look for her. Harry had told me that her car was still in the parking lot, and she's been gone for almost two days already. I woke up on Tuesday, determined to go search for her. I dressed in a green v-neck and low black jeans. Then I left without saying a word to the boys, who sat silent in the living room while watching the telly.

My car grumbled as I turned to park in front of Amber's building. I didn't exactly know what to say to her. Of course I'd apologize, but I kinda felt like my body would go completely weak when I saw her gentle face. I wasn't prepared, but I didn't know how to prepare myself. I knocked on the door and waited for someone to answer. When nobody came, I knocked again. It swung open and Amber's mother stood there eyeing me. "Hey hot stuff." she winked, making me feel extremely uncomfortable.

"Good morning." I said as she invited me in.

"Oh!" she giggled. "Your accent is just adorable." she pulled my face towards hers and placed a sloppy kiss on my cheek. Her breath reeked of liquor, and her appearance didn't look so great either. I smiled awkwardly and let my eyes wander around, in search of Amber or Lily.

"Um, is Amber here?"

"No, I thought she was with you. She's always with you. Obviously." She answered, stumbling as she rolled her eyes. Where could she be? If she isn't here then... well, there isn't really anywhere else she could be. Maybe she's gotten hurt. I was suddenly worried, but the sight of Lily's smile cleared my head. She had just woken up, and she was running over to give me a hug.

"Zayn!" she shouted, in a tone that was almost like a desperate cry. I held her tight, and she wouldn't let go so I picked her up. She kept her face nuzzled into my shoulder and sighed. Her mom took a large gulp from a bottle of alcohol on the table and made a funny face as she swallowed. "Take me with you." Lily whispered. "Mommy can I go with Zayn?" She asked, spinning her head around and making a puppy face.

"Yeah..." she waved her hands around. "Sure.... take her anywhere! To get the little munchkin outta my hair." She shooed us off and I stumbled out the door with Lily in my arms.

"Are you hungry, love?" I asked her, and she nodded before I could finish my sentence. I wondered if her mother had fed her in the past couple of days. She couldn't be that cruel, right? I brought Lily to a little restaurant by the hotel and watched her eat ferociously. I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion and told her to slow down. "The food isn't going anywhere," I assured her, so she smiled and slowed down. She ate all of her food and chugged down her entire milkshake. I noticed that she hadn't asked me any questions or talked about Amber. I didn't expect her to know anything about where she was, so I didn't play around with the subject, and decided not to say anything.

When we finished, I took her hand and we went back to the hotel. Of course she was ecstatic when she saw the boys, and they seemed very happy to see her too. And by noon, she was asleep.
