14. Smoke

After washing up, I pulled my hair back into a tight ponytail and wandered around the hotel suite. Beyond the long dark hallway was much more. A game room with mini fridges and and a huge television screen. A ping pong table and a long window that wrapped around the entire room. I squinted at the bright light and found another hallway to the right. There were empty closets and deserted bathrooms, but no more bedrooms. There was a balcony at the end of the hall. I walked over to it and opened the door. The cool breeze shocked my skin as I sighed and hopped onto the railing. I looked down at the honking cars and traffic lights. My feet swayed with the rhythm of the palm trees. I closed my eyes and smiled. I felt my dad's presence, it was almost like an angel. He was an angel.

I opened my eyes, expecting him to be there staring at me with his big eager eyes. I took a deep breath and shook my head at the amount of stupidity wandering my brain. I felt warm hands slip around my waist. "You found my secret hiding spot." Zayn said slowly. I smelt smoke. I loved the smell.

"Gimme one." I swung my legs around and faced him. He held out his pack of cigarettes and I took one. "Don't tell Lily." I whispered. He grinned and lit it for me as it stuck out of my mouth. We both took a drag and blew it out. It wasn't my first time. I had smoked with Noah many times. I didn't start until he and I met, therefore, he was the one who had gotten me hooked. He was way worse than I was though. Noah would go through almost a pack a day, where as I could go three or four days without a silly little cigarette. I really tried to stop after we broke up, but I still crave the nicotine every once and a while. "This is nice." I exclaimed, breaking the silence. I had been referring to the balcony view.

"Yeah. I like to think here. If it were bigger, I'd bring a mattress out here and camp out. Stare at the stars..." He spoke slowly and quietly. I smiled a little in response to his smirk. A bang on the glass startled both of us. Lily's little hands knocked crazily on the door. I turned around and dropped the cigarette, then Zayn  stomped on it with his shoe. He obviously noticed that I hadn't been wearing shoes. I thanked him with a smile and he passed me a piece of gum. I shoved it in my mouth and chewed it quickly to get rid of the smell. Lily had used all of her strength to open up the door.

"Woaah! This is totally fantastic!" She shouted, in awe of the view. "Amber did you all of the fun games! There must be a thousand of them!"

"Really baby? That's so cool! Maybe we can play some of those games later if you ask the boys nicely." A bright smile appeared on her face as she looked up at Zayn.

"How about later on tonight we can gather up and play games together? It can be a game night." Zayn told her, causing her smile to grow. "How many of us are there?" he asked her. She put the question into deep thought.

She furrowed her eyebrows and said, "I'll be right back!" Then she flew back into the house to go count the boys. I sighed and smiled as we waited for her to come back. She ran back to us, out of breath, and wailed "Five, six!" poking our tummies.

"Plus you." I explained to her.

"Seven!" She shouted and giggled. We each gave her a high five.

"Great job." Zayn assured her. "So later, all seven of us can play."

"Now go inside and get ready for a bath, Lily. I'll be in in a minute." She nodded and went back inside. "You have a tub right?" I asked, laughing.

"There's one in this hallway here." He pointed.

"Okay, thanks." I kissed his cheek. "And thanks for the smoke." I winked at him and walked away.

"To be honest, it kinda turned me on." He said with a chuckle. I rolled my eyes and turned around to look at him.

"Maybe I shouldn't smoke around you anymore then." I stuck my tongue out at him and went inside.
