33. Lunch Plans

AMBER'S POV:

I handed Heather her coffee cup and gave her a small smile, then returned to my desk. I guess she thought it'd be best  if she didn't talk about the thing on tv, so she left me alone. I spent about an hour organizing files and returning them to their owners, and when I began to shuffle a bunch of Heather's papers, she called me into her office. "Amber, can I speak with you for a quick second?" I rose to my feet and stepped in. "You can close the door." I obeyed her suggestion and sat in one of the purple chairs that faced her.

Heather's office was quite amazing. There was a huge window behind her with an awesome view. And the walls were white with a gorgeous chandelier hanging above her. There were matching frames on the wall with funky pictures in them, and a portrait of Heather on the wall on her right side. There were color swatches draped on the white leather couch in the corner, along with the cool pillows that she'd designed herself. "What can I do for you?" I asked kindly, with my hands in my lap.

"I just wanted to make sure that you were okay, I mean, you seemed pretty.... I don't know. If I knew you'd react like that I wouldn't have turned on the television. I'm sorry." I shook my head in response.

"Oh, no. Don't be, really Heather it's fine." I assured her. "I'm actually kind of glad you showed me. I'm okay. Don't worry about me." I stood up and smiled at her before I headed for the door.

"Oh, Amber hold on a minute." I turned around to face her and saw her approaching me. "I was wondering if you'd like to have lunch with me next week. I have something I want to talk to you about."

"Are you firing me?" I whispered, not meaning to say it out loud.

"No, no! Of course not, dear." She giggled and pulled me into her embrace. "You are a great girl Amber." She patted my shoulder and grinned.

"Thank you." I said, blushing. "Can I get you anything?"

"Um, can you have collect everybody's daily reports and have them on my desk before 3:30?"

"Sure, no problem."

"And Amber..." she stopped me. I turned around to face her again. "Thank you... for everything. I really appreciate all of your hard work." I nodded and returned to my desk with a smile on my face.
