My Mistake

Ireland Rowlins is a pathological robber. She hits a music store, and is almost caught in the process. By the store owners son. She is drawn to him, and leaves the store empty handed. Since her mistake, she's been going back and forth, between deciding to turn herself in and ending her reign, and hiding the past she is willing to put behind her.

1. Lost in the Moment

My heart was pumping.

My hands are handcuffed behind my back and the judge is peernig at me like I'm trash. That's probably what everyone in this courtroom thinks. You can't exactly blame them. I am a robber.

I looked back at the jury. They weren't looking too happy. Can't blame them either. Their forced to come here and decide on a case for someone who's too stupid to decide between right and wrong that they don't give a shit about. That someone is, obviously, me. I looked at the congregation; my Aunt Natasha's face stood out. I was surprised she came.

"Ireland Rowlins," The judge said. I flinched at my name, but didn't look at him. I didn't want to. "Ireland," the judge repeated, sternly. I gave one last longing look towards Rory Wood. He was sitting with his father, the store owner. Mr. Wood looked unsympathetic. Rory looked very sorry.

Why am I here, you ask? Because for the first time in my life, I trusted someone. And this is where it got me. Also for the first time in my life, I loved someone. In case you haven't noticed, I'm clearly lacking in those two areas. As usual, I was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

"Ms. Rowlins?" my lawyer spoke up, tentatively. I tore my eyes away from the Wood's, reluctantly, and glared at him, shutting him up fast. Stupid, good-for-nothing lawyer. Granted, I would never need one if I hadn't changed who I was.

This is my story. This is my mistake.
