Run Faster

The story of Dakota, a normal teenage girl - or at least she thought until she is sent on an FBI mission to rescue her kidnapped father and stop nuclear weapons from being manufactured.

7. Chapter 7

"It won't be an easy task," Agent 12 continued, "but, we think if you do exactly as your told, you can accomplish this task."

"Okay. Back up. I'm sixteen. I'm not athletic, I'm not a super spy. What makes you think I can do this?" I argued.

"You have the intelligence, the wit, and a trustful gut."

  "Okay. I'm Dakota--"

  "Agent 527," he interrupted.

  "DAKOTA!" I yelled.

  "Calm down, Agent--"

"Please, calm down. I know you're scared. I know you want to go home, but we need your help. America needs your help."

I took several deep breaths and looked around. I was getting many disapproving looks, but since when did I care? I care now. For some reason I felt like I had made a total fool of myself. I guess I do have a trusty gut.

Agent 12 leaned over to whisper, "Cooperate now and you'll get a fresh start."

  "Okay," I said.

"Now, follow me and we'll get you acquainted with your gear." I followed him down another narrow hallway.

This place is making me claustrophobic, I thought.

"Here we are," Agent 12 said, "All your gear is placed on this table."

"That's it? Where's all the cool stuff?" I asked.

"This isn't that kind of mission, I'm afraid. The 'coolest' thing you have here is this," he said, reaching for a black metal object on the table. A gun.

"I'm sorry. Please tell me that's not a gun."

  "Just in case," he said.

"Just in case what? I'm getting shot at? You said that this isn't that kind of mission."

  "It might turn into one."
