Silent as the Night

Vanessa is a 12 year old Vampire with a lot to loose. This year she must leave her comfortable and safe place at the Vampire School, and enter the world of humans... "You see in vampire school, you graduate at the age of 12 and then you have to go in a human school. This is considered as the `coming of age` for Vampire children, even though we are still in school. Ancient tradition laid down by many generations of Vampires states this to be a momentous occasion and a reason to celebrate, but truthfully, it`s a nightmare." Quote from story

9. Guess what?

My second lesson after lunch was History. I was really exited because I was told that we were studying ancient myths and legends, which I know all about, since according to humans, I am one! This class was practically full and guess what? The only free spot in the entire class was right next to -you got it- Charlie.

He winked at me as I sat down.

"Do you know what myth we are studying today?" He asked me with a twinkle in his eyes that made them look like stars.

"How would I know? I'm brand new, remember?" I reply, he smiles at me and says.

"Yeah, but it feels like I have known you all my life." He said, going all romantic

"aaawwwee! How sweet, but I am afraid it wont work on me babe." I say flirting right back

"Look, what I said earlier. I should have waited, I mean, I don't want to freak you out or anything but, well, you know..." He trails off as the teacher comes in.

" Okay Kids! Today we will be studying the ancient myth of vampires and how fear of them affected community's and people's lives." Awesome, if there is one subject I know, Its that.

"Firstly, does anyone know anything before we get started?" She asked

Both me and Charlie put our hand up and he looks at me surprised and impressed.

"You first Charlie" The Teacher said

"Well he" he said, glancing at me " In the olden days, people believed in vampires. people used to put crosses on their doors at night and hang strings of garlic at the ends of their beds if they thought that there was a vampire in the village." He looked like he was going to say more as well but the teacher stopped saying that I should have a turn to share.

"People used to think that a black rose meant that there was a vampire nearby and as a result you cannot find black roses, even today, except in very old forests. People also used to think that a vampires soul was linked to a black fox, and nearly made the black foxes extinct. If someone was thought to be a vampire, they would drive a stake through their heart once they had died, to make sure that they stayed dead"

I could tell that both the teacher and Charlie were very impressed. The rest of the lesson was pretty boring, since everything said I already knew, however, close to the end of the lesson Charlie scooted his chair closer to mine and put his arm round my shoulders. I felt really uncomfortable but thankfully I cant blush and I knew better than to anger Charlie, him being a slayer and all. He put his head close to mine and said

"You smell nice. I wish my girlfriend smelt as nice as you."

"You have a girlfriend?" I ask, surprised

"Not for long!" And he winked a me again.
