Missing Darcy

"Darcy was the one thing that had kept Stella and I together, and now she had turned into the thing that was tearing us apart..."

Harry and Stella's once-strong relationship was completely erased. Harry unaware, Stella found out she was carrying Harry's baby. Determined to get Stella back, Harry stuck by her side nonstop after Darcy was born. Upon taking care of her, they learned things about each other and were brought closer than ever before. Darcy was their miracle.

Until she went missing.

3. Our Miracle

We basically spent the next year or so guessing on how to take care of Darcy. While it was questionable for Darcy's sake, it was, no question, the best opportunity for Stella and me. Without knowing it, we gradually got as close as we used to be.

Every night would be the same routine for the both of us. Stella would put Darcy to bed and then go sleep in the room down the hall, which meant that I had night duties and would have to listen with open ears every night for the cries of our daughter. So my nights consisted of accidentally walking into walls and stubbing my toes on the way to her nursery.

The monitor wailed one night, full of Darcy's screaming. I climbed out of bed in only my boxers and a white tee shirt. Of course, I stubbed my toe on the corner of the wall on the way out. Ouch.

I was surprised to find Stella rocking in the rocking chair with Darcy.

"Go to bed," she whispered, "I got her."

I felt horrible leaving and making her stay up, but I wandered off to bed anyway. I wasn't sure how long I had been asleep, but I felt someone climb into bed with me. It was Stella. I moved over to make room. We lay there for a while before she spoke, her words catching.

"It's hard."

I rolled over. "I know,"

"You aren't her mother. You don't know how heavy the weight on my shoulders is." she whispered.

"No, but I am her father. I think you keep forgetting that."

"Trust me, I have never forgotten that. And I sure as hell won't."

She rolled over to face me, her eyes wide open. I closed mine.

She spoke again. "I haven't forgotten us either."

My eyes snapped back open. "Stella, we are on our way to being the people we once were. I mean come on, we haven't slept in the same bed as each other for almost a year." She laughed.

Her kiss came by surprise, her fingers lightly tugging at my hair and her body close to mine. This was what I missed. When she pulled away I immediately pulled her back. Neither of us were stopping. Her hands tugged at my shirt, and mine at hers. I still loved her with my whole heart. And she still loved me, I could feel it.

When we were done, Stella put her head against my chest.

"Promise me you won't leave me."

I brushed her hair out of her face. "Stella, it's the last thing I would ever do to you."

"You have once. Don't do it again. I don't know what I'll do."

My voice wavered. "Stella, I promise."

She took a breath. 'I'm sorry to bring it up. What's done is done."

I couldn't have agreed more. Darcy was our miracle.
