Chapter 1


The bus stopped and the doors opened, I picked up my bag and made my way off the bus.

‘’Bye Delly’’ shouted Olivia from behind me.

I turned around and waved, then stepped off the bus.

Olivia was one of my only friends, my other friend was called Tom.

I did have other friends but they weren’t best friends like them.

I walked along the grey pavement.

Why was Thursday so boring? I thought to myself.

Lunch detention for ’Answering back to a teacher’’, or whatever they call it,

I prefer to call it ‘’giving my point of view’’ like they had asked me to.

I made my way up the drive and unlocked the door.

Dad wasn’t in and neither was mum, so I turned on the TV and blasted the Top 40 through the house.


I walked upstairs and grabbed my phone off my desk and walked back downstairs.

I turned on my phone,

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 20, 30.

30 messages.

This had never happened before, I wasn’t popular, and why did I have 30 messages?

I opened the first message;

Why did Tom want me to ‘’rest in peace’’?

The next message read;

Cindy Barber:

You will always have a place in my heart Del,

I hope you won’t forget me when you descend to heaven

What was going on?

I wasn’t dead, was I?


I was not dead, so why were they saying I was?

Some of the numbers were unknown.

The following messages were the same,


‘’I’ll miss you’’

There was only one message left,

It was of Willem Thompson.

I had a major crush on him, and whenever I would text him he would never reply;


Delilah, I know you can’t read this message but I need to tell you this.

It’s too late now but;

Does he, or is he just saying that cause I’m supposedly dead?

Suddenly my phone rang,

‘’Hello?’’ I say

‘’Delly is that you’’ says the voice

‘’yeah, why is everybody saying I’m dead’’ I ask

‘’cause…wait I’m coming over..’’

‘’but I’’…………….

They hang up on me.

The voice sounded familiar but I couldn’t put my finger on it.

But it was defiantly not a girl.
