4. Will you be Home in Time : Daughter's Letter

8th of June 1917

Dear Father

Your letter, which I received today, brought me to tears; if I had known the circumstances you would be facing and going through I would never have let you sign up for this terrible ordeal.

Liam told me a month ago that he wanted to sign up, to fight by your side, however I said “I’m not going to tell you, not to go, but I will show you this letter from our father and then you can make your decision” He immediately said father is a brave man and a role model to all.

Later today, Liam came home with a letter. Fear and dis-grief filled his face. Shaken by the seal of the envelope and feared of the outcome. Suddenly without opening the letter, Liam spoke “I have no choice but to join. I am bringing forced to fight alongside our troops.”

I’m so sorry to read about you best mate, we went over to Ms. Anderson’s house last night, she hadn’t heard the news yet so instead we told her gently of what happened, she burst into tears and cried for ages eventually she stopped and said let’s have a nice dinner and remember what our brave men are fighting for.

I am glad to share good news towards your tragic events. I am proud to announce the birth of your granddaughter.  She came a bit late, and was born on the 20th of December 1916, she is now 6 months. She reminds me of you, the way she smiles, laughs and always filled with lives greatest happiness. Just remember it is not your fault.

And always remember, where there is darkness, light will follow.

Hope to see you at Christmas this year

Miss you heaps
