2. If we ever meet again

As the next week went buy our flat started to feel more like home. I started working at a small Italian restaurant a few blocks away a few nights a week. I hadn’t seen that blonde boy since Mairead and I had gone to dinner at that Chinese restaurant. It was weird, I couldn’t get his image out of my head. There was something about him but I couldn’t put my finger on it.

I looked over at the clock on the table next to my bed. It was 8 in the morning. Usually I don’t wake up until at least 9 or 10 but I couldn’t go back to sleep. I rolled out of bed and got into the shower. I knew Mairead wasn’t up because I would have heard her watching TV or something. When I got out of the shower I straightened my hair and did my make up. I took my foundation and put a light coat on and a little bit of eyeliner and mascara. I got dressed, grabbed my iPhone and wallet and left the flat.

I walked down the street looking at all the shops until I saw a Starbucks on the other side of the road. I was opening the door when someone ran into me almost knocking me down.

“Oh my god I am so sorry!” I said really worried “Are you okay?”

“It’s ok. Really, it was all my fault.” He said

I couldn’t help but notice that he had the same amazing blonde hair as the boy from the night before. He looked like him too. But could this really be him again? It couldn’t be. What were the chances I would ever see him again? I just stared at him while my mind was filled with all these thoughts.

“Uh are you okay? You seem kind of lost.” He said bringing his face almost down to my level.

“Yeah, I’m fine. It’s just… Have I seen you before?” I blurted out.

Oh great. Why did I have to say that?

“Um I think I saw you the other night. Down at the Chinese restaurant the other night.” He said smiling

“Oh yeah. Sorry, you just looked familiar.”

“No it’s okay.” He said laughing

His laugh was so cute. He also had a killer smile and this cute Irish accent. To sum it all up, he was just adorable.

“I’m Niall.” He said holding out his hand.

“Catherine” I said shaking his hand.

“Can I buy you a cup of coffee?” He said as he pointed to the man waiting to take someone’s order.

“Yeah, sure.”

I couldn’t help but smiling like an idiot and I surprisingly I didn’t care who saw. We both ordered our coffees and sat down at a small table next to the window. It had a perfect view of the shops across the street.

“So, um where are you from?” he asked looking down at his coffee.

“I’m from New York.” I said half shyly

“Oh, cool. I could tell by your accent that you weren’t from around here.” He said laughing

“Is it that obvious?”

“Well besides your accent and the fact that you have no idea where you’re going, I would say it isn’t that obvious.” He said sarcastically

“Well I can tell by your accent that you’re clearly not from around here either. So where are you from?”

“Ireland. Mullingar to be exact.” He said proudly

“Nice.” I said smiling again. “So what brings you here?”

“Uh you know…” he said drifting off

“Don’t want to talk about it?”

“Yeah.” he said slowly. “I’d tell you, but then I’d have to kill you.”

“Oh top secret?” I said giggling. “It’s ok I get it.”

His phone started going off in his pocket so he answered it.

“Ok, ok…. I’m at Starbucks…. Yeah I know….. Okay Harry, calm down I’m coming!”

He hung up the phone.

“Sorry, I have to go.” He said taking a deep breath

“No it’s ok. I should probably get going too.”

“Hey, I know we just met and everything but, do you think I could get your number?” He said with full confidence.

“Uh, yeah sure!”

I took his phone and programed my number into it. I couldn’t believe it! This amazing, extremely good-looking guy was asking me for my number! I felt like nothing could bring my mood down at this point. I wasn’t used to guys coming up to me and asking me for my number. I was always invisible to everyone.

“Thanks.” He said putting his phone back into his pocket. “I’ll see you around then?”

“Yeah, defiantly.”

He flashed a cheeky smile my way and walked out the door. I was still in so much awe from what just happened that I started to smile like an idiot again. I should really start catching myself when I do that. I finished my coffee and started walking back to the flat. I couldn’t wait to tell Mairead what had happened.
