13. Escape fail

Just as I was starting to form a plan as to how to get out of the van the back door opened and I saw the Vampire who had captured me. I took a quick look around at my surroundings. We were in a forest with pine trees surrounding us. It seemed to be about midday. I was jolted back into reality when I saw an arm coming. As he was grabbing for me I bit his hand. Not the classiest move, I’ll admit, but it worked. He pulled back and that gave me enough time to roll out of the back of the van. Now comes the tricky part.

Because I’m a cheerleader I have to be able to do stunts, and a standing back flip is one of them. But, the problem is that I do it with human abilities. That means I can get about 3 feet off the ground and I use my arms to power me. Right now I need to get at least 10 times that height and without the momentum of my arms. Oh ya, and I had about 4 seconds to do it. I braced myself and used all the strength I had to jump, and felt myself fly off the ground…and then I felt myself get pulled back down.

“Where do you think you’re going sweetheart?” he said with an evil grin. He had grabbed my ankle to prevent me from jumping into the trees and breaking my ropes. That was my plan.

“Who are you and what do you want with me?” I spat at him. I was NOT going to let him see how scared I was. I’m supposed to be a queen and there’s no doubt in my mind that he knows that.

“Well,” he said, lazily, “My name is Max, and I’m here to take you, queen Zoë, to my cult leader. He’s got something special in store for you.”

“And where is this mysterious leader of yours? Too scared to take on a little girl by himself?” I needed as much information as possible if I wanted to survive, and confidence seemed like the only way to get it. Max was cocky, and if I played my cards right, he’d tell me everything I needed to know.

“No!” he retorted, like it was his job to defend his leader. I mean, you’re supposed to respect your cult leader, but he seemed to take it to another level. “Well, look. Here he is, now.” I looked to my left and my jaw just dropped. It couldn’t be!
