Just a Coincidence

When 17 year old Maddi is told that she has to move back to her childhood town in Ireland, will her life be changed for better or for worse? Will she be willing to leave her Australian life behind? Or will something happen to make the move that little bit easier.

My first Movellas novel. Sorry if it's bad...

2. Goodbyes

Maddi sighed, as she tugged her heavy suitcase through the airport. She could hear her friends mumble behind her, something about kidnapping her and hiding in Grace's storage cupboard. Maddi let a silent tear spill over her eye- she was going to miss this whole life. It was in that moment when Maddi realised that she didn't want to leave. She didn't want to move to another country, live in another house, or find new friends. Screw her parents jobs! Maddi loved her life in Australia- she only had one best friend in Ireland and he probably doesn't even remember her now. I regret not keeping in contact now, knowing one person would be easier than none.

Maddi opened her mouth, just about  to object going to Ireland, when she briefly overheard the end of her parents conversation.

"I'm so excited Rob. I haven't been this excited about a job in 20 years! I finally get to have the dream job!" Maddi's mum, Helen gushed, not able to wipe the growing smile of her face.

"I know honey, you've been waiting for this for a long time, I'm so happy for you." Rob grinned and hugged Helen.

Maddi sighed. She can't ruin her mother's dreams just because she doesn't want to move. Maddi mentally hit herself, how could she be so selfish. She sunk back into her thoughts and tried to block out all noise around her, though including the muffled sobs from her friends behind her, her parents laughing in front of her and the typical airport noise around her- Maddi only managed to receive a huge headache.

She lifted her head from her feet and scanned the room for the customs checkpoint. The sooner she can be away from her friends, the easier it would be to get on that plane. Sounds harsh but Maddi felt like bursting into tears, running all the way back to their sold family house and dive into her imaginary bed which in reality has been packed up and put on a plane to Mullingar.

"Here we are." Helen stated, standing in front an illuminated red sign reading, 'Customs' .

Maddi felt her legs turn numb as she slowly turned around to see her 3 best friends red faced from the tears. Maddi gulped, hiding the sadness from her face. She guessed Luke decided not to come. Everything was overwhelming- her thoughts weren't coming as easily as they should. Everything was blurred and moving in slow motion.

"Please don't go." Sammie squeaked, letting more tears spill onto her cheeks. With that simple sentence, Maddi let out a whimper and stared crying violently, leaning into her friends for support.

No words were spoken. Maddi, Grace, Sammie and Bella just cried uglily into each other's shoulders- not worrying about the confused looks by passers were giving.

Maddi looked up suddenly, as if she heard her name being called but dismissed it and went back to furrowing her head into Bella's neck.

"Maddi." She heard again, jumping as she felt someone tap on her shoulder. Maddi turned around, hoping that it was Luke tapping on her back and being the prince charming that confessed his love for her- just like the soppy romantic movies that her best friend's watched on a regular basis.

Expecting to see Luke, Maddi's face dropped, disappointingly meeting her Dad's face instead.

"Oh. Am I really that ugly?" He said sarcastically, noticing the change in Maddi's facial expression.

"No dad. You're not. It's just..."

"I know sweetheart." Rob hugged her. "I'm so sorry. It's time to go." He whispered, wiping away her wet tears with his thumb.

Maddi moaned softly and turned to face her friends- ready to shed a new lot of tears. She turned her face down towards the ground and sniffled, gathering herself for the goodbye.

"Don't cry Madz."

Maddi suddenly lifted her head up to meet the gaze of a flushed face, teary eyed, flower-holding Luke.

"How terribly cliché of you." Maddi mumbled, letting a smirk escape her expression as she wrapped her arms around Luke's muscular frame.

"I just needed to say one last goodbye."
