The Boy With The Red Hair

Jenna Winter- clumsy, silly, and completely ready to go to Hogwarts. As she boards the train with her older brother, leaving the muggle world behind, she imagines what the next seven years of her life would be like. It would be ordinary, boring even. She wasn't special- definitely not a trouble-maker. But everything changed when she stepped into a compartment and saw the boy with the red hair.

6. Year Five

Ron told me everything. Everything that had happened in the past four years- from the stone and Mirror of Erised to what really happened in the Triwizard Tournament. The truth about you-know-who and Sirius Black and even Professor Lupin. He also told me the real reason we had come here to 12 Grimmauld Place, instead of the Burrow like usual.

They were all downstairs now, Mr. and Mrs. Weasley, Sirius, Professor Lupin, Professor Moody, Tonks and Kingston. Mrs. Weasley made us promise to stay in our rooms, and I could hear loud bangs coming from Fred and George’s bedroom next door. They just turned seventeen and were allowed to use magic outside of school- I had a feeling they weren’t going to be doing much hard work in the next few week; they apparated to get something a few feet away.

“So, are you going to join the Order?” I asked Ron, who sat on his bed next to mine. He was twirling his wand around, and I was tempted to take it away before he accidently set something on fire.

He nodded, his hands turning still as he faced me. “Yeah, I s’pose so. Harry will, that’s for sure. He’s set on doing something to stop you-know-who.”

There was another loud bang that traveled through the walls, sending some dust falling from the ceiling. I ignored it, just hoping that Fred and George didn’t send this whole building tumbling down.

“So, where is Harry, anyways?” I haven’t seen him since the end of last year, and I haven’t heard anything either. I shifted on the rickety bed, and Ron smirked at the noise.

“Uh, he’s at his Aunt and Uncle’s house in Little Whinging. He’ll probably come here a week before school starts, I think. Dad’ll probably go to pick him up.”

“Right. Well I can’t wait to see him again! Bet he’s changed since we last saw him.” I had been here in Grimmauld Place for about a month now. Kris had gone to train at the ministry to become an auror and mum and dad went to the states to visit some family, and Mrs. Weasley very kindly insisted that I stay with them till school.

It was July 12th , which meant we still had over a month till we even had to think about school again, but another month without seeing my other best mate, who’s birthday was coming up. But while I have been staying here, Ginny and I have gotten quite close and it’s quite nice to have another girl around, other than Tonks and Mrs. Weasley.

Just then, there was a knock on the opened door of our room and Ginny walks in, a giant smile plastered to her face.

“Can we go down now?” Ron turns to get off of his bed, shoving his wand in his back pocket.

“No, they’re still talking.” She stepped forward. “But guess who just showed up!

“Is Harry here?” I asked hopefully, but she shook her head.

“It’s Snape. Apparently he’s part of the Order!”

“What?!” Ron stood up abruptly. “They let that prat in?!”

“Calm down, Ron! Fred and George have got a plan!” Ginny raised her hands, holding her brother back from running out the door. I stood up as well, walking around my bed and followed Ginny and Ron out the door.

We walked in to Fred and George’s room, which looked like a bomb had gone off. They were in the back corner, huddled around a table, their heads craned down as they looked at something in their hands. They seemed to somehow notice that we had come in and turned to face us, flashing brilliant grins.

“Hello!” they said in unison. At first, I thought it was weird how they could do that, but after the years I just learned to accept it.

“Let us introduce you,” the first twin said.

“To our newest masterpiece!” The second twin finished, holding up what they had been hiding.

“Bloody hell! Where’d you get that?” Ron asked, staring with wide eyes at the two ears attached to a piece of string. He raised his hand to his head as if he was imagining what it would be like to wake up and realize that his brothers had cut off his ears.

“Don’t be ridiculous, Ronald!” Twin one, who I’m guessing is Fred, laughed.

“We paid good money for this!” George held the ear closer to Ron.

Ron blushed, embarrassed at the fact that he thought the ears were real. To be honest, though- they was a pretty convincing alternative.

“What’re they for?” I asked, receiving an appreciative nod from the twins. They stood up and walked closer, bringing the ears into better light.

“See, this lass is asking the right questions.” Fred wrapped an arm around me, while George inched closer to Ron.

“Yeah, this one’s a keeper, Ron.” George joked, but Ron looked like his head was about to explode.

“I swear-”

“So, what’re the ears for?” Ginny interrupted, and George and Fred turned to her, acting oblivious of Ron’s outburst.

“It’s an Extendable Ear- wicked for eavesdropping.” Fred smiled.

“And with a secret meeting downstairs,” George motioned to the room below us, which was the kitchen where meeting was being kept.

“With Snape, no less,”

“We thought it appropriate to listen in.”

We all nodded, interested to finally find out what these meetings were about.

We leaned over the stairwell, watching as one of the ears was slowly lowered down to the lower floor. The other was being repeatedly being pressed to Fred’s own ear as he tried to hear the conversation.

There was a soft mumble coming through the door, but nothing audible. Snape had arrived only a minute ago it seemed, so hopefully he hadn’t said the news already.

“Alright, I can hear them.” Fred raised his hand, stopping George from letting the ear go any further down. He held the ear between us, the voices from the kitchen suddenly available to us.

“Severus, what is your news you are so anxious to tell us?” Sirius asked with annoyance very clear in his voice.

“It’s Potter. He’s run into a… situation near his home.” Snape answered, his tone sounding slightly amused. “Something about a dementor and a Patronus charm being cast in front of a muggle. I also believe he’s been expelled from Hogwarts.”
