The lover's lake

1. the swan lake

Rich red leaves drift to the ground, slowly so slowly,

the world fades away leaving only you and I,

and the path, to the lake, that glows so brightly,

the lake where the swans learn to fly.

Slowly we walk hand in hand,

our eyes glued together, quietly we hum

as we walk, passed the old brass band,

on the way to the lake, in the middle of autumn.

There we watch the swans drift,

as they move round the lake, so slowly

two by two they mount the air, like a swift

and two by two they learn to fly.

Their wings flap, like a heart beat

in time and tune with the world,

and so long ago did we first meet,

as we watched the swans, saying not a word.
