My Dark Heart

"My heart is heavy with all that has become, I can't see how I could cast aside all I held dear... It's almost as if he was never there, not even alive... But then, he isnt..."

3. Wide eyes.

I woke in a shared room. A creeky single bed under me, soft covers and a fluffy light pillow under my head. I loked to my right and came nose to nose with a plain cream wall. Huh. I rolled over onto my left and found another bed pressed against the wall at the far side. A petite girl sat on th bed, her legs crossed and her mind engrossed in her mobile. What ever was projected off of the glowing screen must have been amusing, as the girl chuckled. I groaned and sat up running a hand through my hair. The girl looked over and dropped her phone onto her bed before rushing towards me. "Roomie!" I was engulfed in a mass of blonde curls and arms. I casually hugged her back, only lightly as she was freaking me out a little. She pulled back and examined me. She smiled, and her lips seemed to almost reach her eyes. "Hi!" She shot a hand out to me, and I shook it. "The names Sadie. And you?" I hesitated, so which do I give her?

"Errm, I'm Luce, but I prefer Raven." She giggled and her curls bounced around her face.

"Raven, hehe, no surprise a girl like that should come here, to Ravenwood." Her eyes widened, their brown chocolatey gaze seemed to warm me, she felt like home. "Otherwise known as the Mourn." She muttered under her breath. "So what are yah?" Her accent bordered on a Western twang. When I hesitated, she decided to make the first move. "I'm a shifter.. You aint a werewolf are yah?" Her brows furrowed, though I saw no reason for hate to go out to werewolves. "No, no, I'm kinda... Something new." Her wide eyes widened even more, if thats even possible. "Good! I just hate that dog smell, yah know? And a new race? How exciting!" She took my hands in hers and I pulled a confused smile. "Powers? Abilities?.. Weakness?" She pulled a sly face as she spoke the last one. "Well, I'm immortal, tied to drinking blood, I'm rather fast if that counts... And I have a thing for animals." I smiled, rather happy with my little list of abilites.

"Huh." Sadie looked around.

"Huh?" I felt disgruntled by her reply.

"What? You dont sound much different that a vampire to be honest." She looked away and twirled one of her curls. I tapped my teeth. "Look, no fangs." She inspected my jaw.

"Huh." That was getting annoying.

"And, if I was a vamp, I'd be able to sense your heart rate, and I certainly cant do that! Besides, think I'd be put in with a mortal if I was vampire?" Sadie considered this for a moment and then stood up.

"I guess, but the vamps seemed pretty fancinated with you. Alex was insistant on being the one in the op room with you." She folded her arms across her chest and frowned. Alex, so that was the vampire who compelled me. He seemed nice. Enough. "Isn't he dreamy?" The original Sadie returned as I rose from my bed. She linked her arm through mine. "I mean, I know he's a vamp and all, but still." Her eyelashes fluttered. "Oh what I'd give for a bit of that!" I bit my lip. Alex did seem nice, and was deffinately, dreamy, but a vampire. He was one of them... wasnt he? Weren't vampires.. the bad guys?
