3. Seeing Cole Again

I became cold as we moved through the wind, chills spread through my body. The ride was silent until Ryan asked "So how'd you get that cut Amber?"

"Well I was sitting by some creek and some weirdo came out and informed me it was private property. He aimlessly assumed I was messing with his shed. I didn't even know what he was talking about so I just ran, but then I slipped and this happened." I said, indicating the scrape on my knee.

As soon as I was finished talking, Ryan started bursting out laughing. I raised an eyebrow and asked him why he was laughing.

"That must have been my brother, Cole. I insist that it's just a groundhog making holes under the shed but he keeps saying it's a person that's trying to vandalize the place. That creek is private property but you're fine. I won't have him call the cops on you." Ryan said jokingly.

I tensed up and froze. "Oh, really? That is such a coincidence. Sorry for invading your creek by the way. That must be a glorious place to own." I said to him. "Sorry for calling your brother a weirdo by the way." I added.

I was just trying to sugarcoat what I had said. I wasn't really sorry, Cole was a weirdo. Even Ryan agreed with me. I was so anxious to go back home with him, I was dreading to see Cole again.

I recognized the land that surrounded us, Ryan made a left turn and pedaled onto a hidden dirt driveway. The driveway seemed endless, but as time elapsed, I soon saw a cute little house that was white with dark red shutters. The front light was on and I saw two men swinging on a porch swing. One I recognized, Cole, who was scrolling through a binder of baseball cards. The other looked to be his father.

Ryan parked his bike next to a ford truck that was in the driveway and I hopped off the handle bars. He helped walk me up the porch steps. Cole and the man both stared at me.

"That's my dad." Ryan whispered.

I smiled at his dad and told him my name, he smiled back, then looked astonished when he saw the dried blood on my knee. And then there's Cole, who just stared at me like the moron he was.

Ryan led me in the house and sat me down at the kitchen table. His mom turned around from washing the dishes and saw me and my scrape. She turned off the faucet and dried her hands. Everyone was surrounding me and I felt on the spot. Ryan hurried to one of the cabinets in the kitchen, it looked to be filled with medicines and band aids. A first aid cabinet. Cole, his dad, and mom all asked me what had happened. How was I supposed to tell them that I snuck onto their property by accident? It was already awkward enough seeing Cole. Their parents' seemed to be fine with the story, I guess Cole was the only one who was being harsh.

Ryan barged through with antibiotic and a band aid in his hand.

"You got this?" His mother asked.

He nodded as she rose from the table and went back to the dishes. Cole and his dad went back outside.

Ryan pulled over a chair and I rested my foot on it, making a bridge of my leg. He wiped the blood and dirt gently, then rubbed antibiotic over the scrape and finished by sticking a band aid over top.

I glanced at the clock and saw it was nine thirty six, my curfew was ten. I made my way outside and sat down on the porch swing with Cole and Ryan, their dad must have gone inside.
