12. "I love you."

"Let’s jump." Cole said while sliding his chocolate milk stained shirt off his body. Did he really just take his shirt off? I just stared at him like he was crazy. And I wasn't staring at his face.

"Um, okay." I replied, shocked. I looked down from the thick branch we were sitting on. The Oak tree stretched across the exquisite lake. The view was gorgeous. I stood up, balancing myself. I then stripped off my t shirt and shorts, revealing my floral print bathing suit. Not the ugly old lady floral print though.

I smiled and gripped Cole's hand. "Ready?"

"Go!"

We both jumped off the branch and splashed into the water laughing. I rose from under the water to catch my breath. I trudged out of the water and dangled myself like a monkey from the rope that hung off one of the tree's branches. I walked backwards until the rope wouldn't stretch anymore and ran towards the lake. I let go of the rope when I was hovering over the lake and plummeted in the water, splashing Cole.

I was on Cole's back, floating in the water. Everything was silent and I just hung on his back, smiling over nothing. I just like being with him.

"Hey Amber?"

"Yes Cole?"

He paused and didn't say anything for a moment. I rested my head on his shoulder, looking at the side of his face. He turned to me and smiled.

"I love you" He finally replied.

"What?" I asked, hopping off his back.

He looked at me with confusion. "I said I love you."

My mom always told me love is a strong word and to never say it unless I truly mean it, just so I wouldn't get my heart broken. I'm fourteen and haven't even had a boyfriend yet. I don't even know what it's like to love. To be honest, I don't believe love is one complete thing. Love is a bunch of memories, laughter, and emotions thrown together. How am I supposed to know if saying those three words are going to cause me heartbroken if I never try?

I stared into his brown, luring eyes and replied "I love you too."
