4. The Perfect Night

As we arrive to the table, Louis stands up and greets us. He looks amazing as always with a white button up shirt, red skinny jeans, suspenders and Toms. I can't help but be very excited for the date to begin, but a part of me still wishes Niall was the one here.
We all order our food as we realize that all four of us have been sitting at the table in an awkward silence. I decide it would be best to break the ice.
"So Louis, how are you and El doing?"
I figure this will be the best way to start a conversation, but I find out I am wrong.
Louis gets a really sad look on his face.
"What's the matter? Did I say something wrong?" I whisper to Harry.
"Eleanor said that with school, she doesn't have time for a relationship. We called it off about a week ago."
I suddenly feel sick and I wonder how I can fix this.
"Why don't we talk about you girls? How long have you been friends for?" Harry chimes in to save the day.
This starts a whole new subject that Skyler and I have a lot to talk about. We have been friends since the seventh grade, so we have tons of memories to share.
"I think the hardest part is that we have a friend Marie; she is like the last piece to our perfect trio. We miss her a lot. We haven't seen her for a while."
Skyler looks sad when she says this, especially when we think of how long it's been. Marie went to college and is very focused on becoming an actress. She's amazing but that leaves little time to get together with her.
Harry and Louis seem very interested in our lives but we would rather learn about them.
Like- why would they want to go on a date with us and not the millions of other fans?
I mean I understand why they'd ask Skyler, she's beautiful. And I'm...below average. But Louis seems to be enjoying himself anyway.
"How many fans did you meet with before the concert?" I ask, as I'm really curious.
"About sixty, but you two seemed like the most fun to hang out with, so we called you."
Louis looks very honest when he says this, but I just can't stop thinking about what Niall thinks of us, thinks of me.
"Why didn't the other boys come?"
I don't want to seem too eager to just see Niall, so I decide it will sound better to ask about all the boys.
"Liam and Zayn are with Danielle and Perrie and Niall is with some friends," Harry tells us.
I feel kind of disappointed. Niall must not like us as much as the other boys.
When dinner is over, Louis and Harry decide to drive us home together. We of course feel like the luckiest girls in the world.
"You remember where we live?" Skyler sounds very shocked.
"Of course we do, it was only a couple of hours ago," Harry says in a smart tone and we all laugh.
Skyler and I begin to walk towards the house when Harry grabs Skyler's hand and asks her to stay back so they can talk.
I can't believe what I'm hearing- Harry Styles wants to talk to Skyler alone!
I decide that they need their privacy and start to walk by myself. I'm in such a happy mood I don't even care that I'm alone.
As I walk, I'm startled by someone putting their arm around me. I look to see Louis's beautiful face smiling down at me. I can't help but blush a little and smile back.
"You weren't going to walk alone were you sweety?" he asks me.
"Well I just thought...that...yeah I was." It takes me a while to figure out what to say to him. My mind blanks easily in uncomfortable situations.
When we get to the door I thank him. He asks for my number, which I'm guessing is to make me feel good. He gives me a hug and kisses my cheek, which surprises me a lot. But then I remember how he'll never call me or anything, and how the kiss is just out of pity.
When I go inside, all I can think of is how it's been one of the best nights of my life.
I sit on our couch and wait for Skyler to come in, and I can tell by the expression on her face that she has a lot to tell me.
She tells me how Harry told her he really likes her and that he wants to see her again. I can't be more happy for her.
I tell her about how Louis kissed my cheek, and she nearly dies.
"Oh my gosh! He likes you!"
"No he doesn't Skyler, he just didn't want me to feel bad."
"Amanda stop, you think too badly of yourself."
I think of all the reasons why I think badly of myself- I've never had a real boyfriend. My first prom date ignored me the whole time. All my friends have had boyfriends. My parents constantly insult me.
It's hard to think anything but bad thoughts about yourself when it seems like the world's against you.
As Skyler and I continue to discuss the evening, the only thing that keeps my spirits up is the fact that I went on a date with a member of One Direction. Never mind that it isn't the one I like, but it's still pretty amazing.
When Skyler's talking about how she has plans with Harry next Friday, we both hear my phone go off. There's a text from a number I don't know.
"Hey, it's Louis :) hope you had a nice evening. I did."
I smile at it, thinking how sweet he is to text me. I don't bother saving the number, because I know it's the last I'll hear from him.
When Skyler reads the text over my shoulder, she goes ballistic.
"I told you he likes you!" she yells at me.
"No he doesn't Skyler," I tell her, because I know he's only trying to be nice.
I mean, isn't that what all British gentlemen do?
