14. A Mountain Romance

Before I know it, my lips are locked onto Louis's. I don't want to mess this up, so I avoid thinking of how I feel and focus on the kiss itself.
I've kissed guys before, a few times. I would say I'm pretty good.
One guy made out with me once to get my sister jealous.
One guy I kissed when I was pretty young, I barely remember his name.
But right now, I'm kissing Louis Tomlinson.
And messing that up would be the worst humiliation possible.
I push my lips gently, but not too forcibly.
I lay my hand on his leg, softly, and don't push at all on it.
I close my eyes, gracefully, and don't squish them too hard.
He pulls away slowly, and a smile creeps across his face.
Oh gosh, I'm a terrible kisser and I've just totally embarrassed myself.
He's laughing at me.
"Stop," the words escape my mouth before I can stop them.
"Stop what?"
"Stop laughing at me. I'm sorry."
"I'm not laughing at you Amanda, I promise."
"Then what's with the smirk?"
"It's just- never mind, we gotta go out."
"Tomorrow. I'll pick you up around noon. See ya then."
He stands up and walks towards the door.
He turns around, opens his mouth as if he's about to speak, but instead just smiles and walks out the door.
What just happened?
Skyler comes into my room shortly after, and we spend the whole night talking about what happened and what the tour will be like- her with her boyfriend and me with my fake boyfriend. And Niall, who I've foolishly, completely fallen for.
The next morning, I wake up to Louis standing over me.
Once he sees that I'm awake, he bends down close to my head.
He pushes my hair out of my face.
"Come on Mandy," he says softly, "time to get up."
"I don't wanna," I mumble, then roll over away from him.
I hear some rustling, then feel a warm body slip under the covers beside me.
I roll back over and come face to face with Louis.
"What are you doing?"
I can't help but smile at my delightfully awkward situation.
"Gotta tweet this morning."
He opens the camera on his phone and points it towards him and I, where I see a hideous beast laying next to a beautiful God-like man.
"No!" I say, attempting to bat the phone out of his hands, "I'm hideous!"
"No you're not!"
"Yes I am!"
"Shut up!"
"Stop lying to me!"
We continue to yell as we struggle over the phone.
Suddenly, the phone is in both of our hands, and our fingers touch.
It seems like their is a spark of electricity between us.
It's probably just the phone.
"I'm not lying," he says, looking up into my eyes, "you're beautiful."
I release the phone, not letting my eyes drop, and crawl out of bed over him.
"I'll be ready in fifteen minutes," I tell him, before opening the door so he can leave.
Once he leaves, I dress quickly and brush my hair.
I do some make up, and take a good look in the mirror.
How can anyone believe that someone as beautiful as Louis Tomlinson could go out with someone like me?
How will anyone believe that we are actually together?
Thinking about it fills me with rage, and I slam the door open to see a surprised and smiling Louis standing in my doorway.
"I can't do it Louis."
His smile drops.
"Why not? What do you mean?"
"Look at me! Look at me! Can't you see it?"
He's done it again. Exposing my insecurities. My flaws. My weaknesses.
"See what?"
"I'm ugly Louis. UGLY. I'm about as ugly as they come, and you're some sex god with a British accent and an angel voice. And you honestly expect people to believe we're together? I'm not going Louis. It's ridiculous."
"You're ridiculous, Amanda. Come on, I have big plans."
He grabs my hand and tries to pull me out of my room, but I pull my hand back.
"I'm not going Louis."
He steps forward and grabs my face in both of his hands.
"Amanda, please. Please."
I sigh deeply and roll my eyes.
He kisses my forehead and leads me outside to his car, where he opens the door for me.
I get inside the car and wait while he gets in too and starts it.
We drive for a while, before I get the nerve to question him.
"Where are we going?"
He smiles, "It's a surprise."
"Well we're going really far out of town. Shouldn't we be seen in public?"
"We don't wanna make it too obvious."
I nod my head silently.
I guess that makes sense, but we're approaching the mountains.
Who's gonna see us up there?
We drive for what feels like forever, until we come to an opening in the mountains.
There's a small patch of grass.
He parks the car, walks around to my side of the car, opens the door, and leads me to the grass.
Then I see it.
A picnic basket. A blanket. Candles.
It's a romantic lunch overlooking the mountains.
It's everything I could ever dream of with a guy.
And it's all fake.
I try my best to smile as he leads me to the blanket, where I sit as he prepares our lunch.
He has made a delicious looking salad, which I love, and homemade cookies.
I scarf down the food, which surprises me a lot.
I'm usually the girl that doesn't eat so she doesn't draw attention to herself. I don't wanna look fat by eating- ever.
But somehow with Louis, I feel more like myself than I ever have.
I feel comfortable, like he's the one person I can expose myself to.
And that scares the shit out of me.
We talk about a lot of things over lunch, everything but Niall.
Mostly about Skyler and my friend Marie that will be visiting soon.
Our lunch is pretty great, but I still wonder- why did Louis bring me all the way up to the mountains when the whole point of us being together was for the public eye?
